Scientific atheism and the state offically supressing religon. If we can adopt a single soviet policy it should be that one. I also really like how the bolsheviks taugth the avant garde artists a lesson in humility. Just because there has been a revolution does not entitle you do whatever the gently caress you want, serve the people with your art or get hosed. That kind of firm cultural leadership is needed today.

My dream for the afterlife is that you can basically just view all of human history and alter things and see what happens. Best part about slavs is how angry they get when people refer to whites as 'caucasians' because it implies they've been committing white genocide for centuries (which they have).

The Buran was actually probably a more practical idea than the Shuttle, all things considered. See, the reason NASA went with the shuttle project in the 70s as its main focus is, with the twilight of the space race and looming budget cuts, they gambled on the idea that they could save a lot of money by reusing the main engine, the most expensive part of any rocket. But the cost savings never materialized. There was some interference from the military, something about being able to put a spy satellite in a polar orbit and return to Earth in one orbit, or something. I don't really remember. Point is, NASA ended up putting all their chips into something that, while super cool, was very expensive, couldn't go past low orbit, and only actually had one advantage over conventional rockets: the ability to bring a payload back from space, say a satellite. Meanwhile the Soviet leadership saw the shuttle and poo poo their pants. They imagined it stealing their satellites and swooping down and dropping bombs on Moscow from orbit. Obviously they had to have one. Difference was, they didn't have the same budgetary constraints NASA did, so they could ditch the whole reusing the main engine thing. Having the main engine on the carrier rocket meant that, while they couldn't recover it, the Buran was lighter and could perform more orbital maneuvers, as well as actually fly. The Shuttle could only glide on a predetermined trajectory directly to a landing strip, the Buran came with jet engines and could actually take off and fly under its own power. The main stage on its own could also be used as a heavy lift rocket, while the shuttle could only carry itself plus about 25 tons to low orbit. In some alternate future where the Buran survived, it would probably have to have been retired when it kept exploding and killing cosmonauts just like the shuttle did, but they would have at least still had the Energia. Basically Buran owns, fight me.

Yeah the Energia owned and if they could have built a heavy lift rocket with the same reliability as Soyuz then space stuff would be a lot better than it is now. NASA kinda sucks at making things not named Saturn.

Did anything ever come out of that historian who found that a lot of sourced soviet deaths had no actual source/connection to who died, and possibly was just guesstimates from western powers during the cold war (im not saying stalin didnt kill a shitload of innocent people, for the record)
