...well, I like that we're parting fairly amicably with her, at least. Levi's all "well, if she fights us, we'll fight her" which I suppose is a good attitude to take in a war with an uncertain future.

Also in the post-game, unlike the main story, the characters you have matter; so if you saved the right ones in previous timelines, you can play the Coda chapters that have them even if they died in that timeline.

You gonna go for the Fireseal/Firecrest/Crest Of Fire/Fire Emblem?

I've never done any of the postgame stuff, so I'm not sure what's involved in that Fireseal etc stuff.

So, yes.

The Fireseal is a Bonus MacGuffin in all the Ogre Battle games. It's always really hard to get (usually) and it's flavor-text is that it is as strong as whatever MacGuffin is in the game; if not stronger. Except ''nobody'' knows what the hell it does. In the first game, it wasn't even equipment; and the only "effect" was to give you the name of a bonus stage you could play if you entered it as your name; but that had no effect on the main plot. To get it, you had to have all 4 "Wind God" weapons; including the Zeypulos which required NOT getting a best ending required important character. Nevertheless, given random item generation; it was remotely possible to getting a copy of the wind god weapons as buried treasure.

In Knight of Lodis you had to unlock all levels of Deneb's secret shop; and it still cost a ridiculous amount of goth. Now it was called the Firecrest.

In Person of Lordly Caliber, it was just lying around in a buried treasure location in the Vert Plateau. :effort:

Tactics Ogre requires the most amount of effort to get; moreso in the PSP remake.

I personally have a theory that it is a homage to the Fire Emblem from those games; but I never got a yay or nay on that.

Episode 5 - Skills update & Port Acyton battle

I changed my PPSSPP settings to what was recommended by Tallgeese, if people don't like it, I can change it back, but it actually looks good to me!

Also please ignore the FPS in the top right corner, that'll be gone in the next update too.

This is a little unorganised because I didn't start doing this starting at Levi - sorry.

This is actually outdated. We bought a new skill row and gave Nerraw Augment Earth to further improve his Earth damage. Fire magic is listed there but is gone now, and has been replaced with storm magic. You'll see why later.

Martine gets another two skills and points in Dodge and Counterattack.

Voltare got another skill row and a rank in Spell Ward.

Levi got another skill row and we finally get to use his rank in counterattack we bought before.

Kilmotos gets two skill rows and his active skill - Fearful impact. Much like Mighty Blow and Tremendous impact, it's a guaranteed hit - but not a crit. It applies the "frightened" debuff which lowers enemy attack and defence.

I'll level with y'all, I've never used Terror Knights, so we'll see how decent "frightened" can be.

We blow practically all of Catiuas skill points giving her Expand Mind at last. I also expand on her spells because I forgot she could cast the Spiritsurge school, and she can cast Boon of Swiftness like two levels before other priests.

Lenneth picks up another skill row and Divine Magic for healing, and eventual Boon of Swiftness.

HEALBOT gets nothing as she's still too low level for Expand Mind and lacks the skill rows to use it. So she'll be saving her points for a bit.

The sole port in the Brigantys Region, Asyton enjoys vigorous trade as the gateway to the Western Obero Sea.

Enemy Composition
Yellow

Nadia (Cleric)
Clay Golem x3
H. Warrior x2
H. Berserker
H. Wizard x2
W. Archer

Clay Golems are new to us

They're big and bulky - they take reduced damage from bows, but not like beasts, it is still worth shooting them with bows.

Their special thing like beasts is a Point Blank Area of Effect (PBAoE) skill that hits everything around them for 50TP.

Golems are not worth worrying about unless they have unrestricted access to your casters, and if they do they become a priority target because that PBAOE will either kill or set up your casters to be killed with little effort.

The PBAOE is mitigated by Physical resistance in my experience, but I could be wrong because I'm remembering from my last playthrough several years ago, and they didn't get to use it in this map :smuggrw:

Catiua stop, what are you doi--

:catstare:

Martine's starting to hit really loving hard now. I mean sure, that's because she's using stupid loving strong equipment but she also hits like a loving truck.

:horns.aiff:

Catiua stop, what are you doing! I just want you to use boon of swiftness for fucks sa--

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAUY1J8KizU

Yeah, I keep forgetting Catiua's got a loving big attack stat.

This uh, overpoweredness absolutely will not continue forever but I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

This is a new one for Wizards who specialise in lightning. It means that enemies can move but they can't take any actions. I loving love this skill.

They can still counter attack though

Relegated to buffing duty for the nonce, Levi gets a buff up on Snipette.

Who promptly doesn't need it.

Oh good, she'll use it on one of the arch--

God damnit Catiua.

Boon of Swiftness is new to us, it buffs your RT so you get more turns.

First Golem dies ineffectually

:gas:

Glad to see someone's getting some damage out, keep up the good work Nerraw.

That was Snipette.

He healed himself AND stole my loot :arghfist:

:toot:

Very straightforward fight this - I get the impression that Golems were meant to be a bigger challenge than they actually are, but then this is mitigated by 1/ chokepoints and 2/ me being overgeared.

She healed someone else AND stole my loot? :arghfist:

Voltare finishes off the last golem, leaving us with a warrior, two Wizard / Enchantress and a Cleric to kill.

They've got no chance.

Levi's one shot critting casters now

You're killing me Catiua.

Hereafter referred to as the downtown dunk.

Lenneth gets a Res stat buff.

That's odd, I don't remember Clerics having a charm skill

gently caress, Lobbers!

Ah, tits it landed.

all is forgiven.

: At once, your grace.

: I beg you wait, my duke. It's too soon!

: Oh? Balmamusa is fallen, is it not? The plan proceeds apace.

: But we still do not know whether Balbatos has divided his troops.

: Even as we breathe, Denam takes Port Asyton. My plan unfolds as I have seen it. Why do you worry so?

: The gods of Valeria are with us, Leonar. You'll see.

Is there any war in history for whom the gods did not stand for both sides?

: I do not question our success, but surely there is no harm in awaiting word from Port Asyton. It is not only our lives that hang in the balance, but the destiny of the Walister race.

: Prudence demands caution.

The good ship Wallister appears to be breaking apart at the seams. We at least seem to be seeing success, I'm sure absolutely nothing will go wrong.

Episode 6 - Everything goes wrong

Yeah, that title isn't just for show actually. Steam saved none of my screenshots at all for the last session and I have no idea why. Subsequent tests have revealed it working just fine, so I presume fuckery is the cause

Thankfully, because my screenshot button on my steamcontroller is F12 for PPSSPP, it saves a screenshot to the virtual memstick, as well as a copy to my steam profile.

If you notice any screenshot funkiness I'll apologise in advance because there's nothing I can do to fix it this time around. Sorry folks.

Anyway, as I said in our last episode, absolutely nothing can possibly go wrong hey, let's just leave Port Acyton and go home, now that we've distracted the Hierophants forces and split them into tw..

poo poo.

Who the gently caress is Arycelle (other than my waifu)

We seem to have a nasty habit of being caught unawares.

Maybe we should get some scouts.

: At last I find you, Levi. You've given good chase, but the hunt ends here!

: Look again. It is you who've fallen into our trap, fool of a Galgastani!

: Galgastani? No. Your work in Balmamusa brings me here!

: You were in Balmamusa!?

Enemy Composition:

Purple

Arycelle (Archer)
H. Knight x2
H. Archer
W. Archer
H. Cleric
H. Berserker x2
W. Warrior
H. Warrior

We're still riding high on our crafting high so this will be easy-ish assuming I don't do anything stupid.

They've basically taken our position from the last map.

: I know your part in the massacre. Do not deny it!

Honestly the best thing about Canopus is that he just flat doesn't give a gently caress about your houses, he's going to fly above them and use them to gently caress you up.

These guys have the high ground, but that means nothing to him.

: Had we fought the Galgastani openly, there could be only one outcome. There was no other way to bring our people together!

: Our people? This is a war fought in the name of power, not people. The nobility want it, and they will crush whomever they must to have it. Don't you see? You're no better than the Galgastani or the Bakram.

: Abuna Donnalto? Why are you here? I thought you a man to keep better company than this.

: The Galgastani torched my Abbey. I have been a member of the resistance ever since.

: What of Karl? What of my brothers and sisters?

: They have passed into the light. There was nothing I could do.

: And for this... for this you joined in the massacre at Balmamusa!?

Yeah, there's a lot of talking this map.

Also - none of this Donnalto stuff is in the game script I'm reviewing, just plain isn't in there so it's a good job I'm screenshotting everything :toot:

This berserker can't do a damned thing to Levi.

Well, he can knock him back, I guess?

These spears are really growing on me. I never really liked Valkyries too much in my other playthroughs, but Lenneth to me is fast becoming MVP.

: You ignore the will of your people - slaughter them - and call it revolution!?

: Who do you think it was first fanned the flames between clans, then pointed at the bonfire as proof of conflict? The nobility!

: Better the rams rise to lead the flock than such shepherds with miters for crooks and crowns for caps.

: And you...you are little better than the yapping sheepdog that does his master's bidding.

:ussr:

True to form, Levi absolutely smashes the loving poo poo out of the barbarian with a crit to the face.

Arycelle and Snipette get into an all out brawl on who's the best Archer, with it being a draw.

Lenneth cops an arrow to the face from the archer at the top of the barrel.

: You should know -- you killed him!

: I didn't know he was in Balmamusa. I didn't... what have we done?

: Crippled as he was, he clunt to the leg of a soldier, begging him to stop the slaughter.

: Your resistance cut him down where he lay.

: Please, Arycelle, you must listen. We were there, in truth, but we took no part in the massacre.

: Excuses! You watched in silence when you could have stopped them!

: The Galgastani murder our children, and you seek to right this with more slaughter?

: I looked up to you once, Abuna. But I can never forgive what you've done!

The enemy is starting to fall.

Martine and Lenneth tag team Rauffe to death.

Imelda is left on a sliver of health and their line is crumbling. Meanwhile...

Levi continues pushing the right flank and dodging spell effects. The Berserker doesn't though.

His healer plays nice though.

Arycelle in the meantime starts playing smarter and goes for Catiua.

Seems like a smart course of action.

Lenneth starts getting the hurt put her on between arrows and spells, nothing she can't handle though.

Emerick the knight blocks our advance via a good use of rampart aura, AND crits Lenneth in the face.

Lenneth gets a heal and then kills Imelda.

The weather brightens up and Levi celebrates by murdering Jeger.

Looking forward to all this XP / SP though

Nerraw finishes off Emerick leaving us free to utterly demolish the remaining enemy.

Both missed. this is some insane luck though.

Levi gets the card.

He is now TANKIER (it was +vit).

Now THIS is what I'm talking about.

Ouch.

Thank gently caress we killed her other allies before she used this or Lenneth might be in trouble.

Lenneth gets a nice top up from Voltare.

Martine gets shackled.

She likes that, unfortunately.

And Arycelle stands alone.

What's this "we" bullshit.

: We'll deal with your kind once the heirophant lies in the ground.

That stupid fucker

: Peddle your lies elsewhere. We're not buying!

: 'Twas a victory of attrition decided by a handful, but a victory for Balbatos nonetheless. More than enough to sound a death knell for your Resistance. The people will turn to us to lead them now!

And she teleports out, leaving us on our own to ponder this bullshit.

Insert Evangelion "Congratulations" clip here

More Goth is always good.

Only Terror Knight and Priest lagging behind at 9 now.

: If that woman spoke true, the roads will be too perilous.

: Levi.... Let us quit this island altogether!

: Cut and run? You can't be serious!

: If what she said is true, then we are finished whether we admit it or no. They'll kill us if they catch us.

: But we must return to Almorica to see the truth of it ourselves. No?

: I would not lose you, Levi! There is a mare that visits me nightly, a dream in which I am alone, brotherless.

: Only a dream, sister. As I stand here now, I will never leave your side.

Arycelle had the unfortunate name of "Aloser" in the Snes/Playstation translation. There's also some changes to her story, which I'll mention when we get to them; if Tithin doesn't already.

Also, something one should always consider in Tactics Ogre PSP, the "half hp" "critical HP" dialogue options.

Some characters will have additional dialogue if you knock their HP down and then ''wait'' until their turn. Some characters will then have more dialogue when you knock them down to critical. (This is ''necessary'' to get some events/characters.)

: Yes, as it happens. A mercenary, like yourself. Not in over your head, by any chance?

: Old Xapan, in over his head? Ha! I'm tempred in a hundred battles.

gently caress right off, and when you get there, turn around and gently caress off again. And keep doing that until we're as far away as we can be. Then gently caress off again.

You won't get one out of this fuckwit.

I am done with this map

Kilmotos gets to use a spell

The stun fails to land. Being fair it was only a ~30% chance to hit, but still it would have been nice.

The fuckwit contributes something useful - this is - I think, the 2h axe finishing move. Might be 1h.

Lenneth and Kilmotos get poisoned.

Another downtunk dunk from Canopus

Catiua no! he's annoying bu--

Carry on

Oh good he blocked something

Kilmotos did something useful :toot:

They really want to kill him

Sort of decide I'd rather prefer to be done with the map than get the extra XP.

Snipette's first limit break, aren't you all proud.

And done

for FUCKS SAKES

And he crits on the counter

which lets Lenneth take a limit break

Nerraw with the cleanup

Yo ho ho ho

No poo poo sherlock

: No criminal, if that's what you're thinking. I'm a Walister, same as you. Hired on with the Resistance, but my boss man died on the Psonji Weald 'fore I saw a single Goth. Any road, I must've left an impression on the Galgastani. They went and put a bounty on my head.

: Then it's true. The Resistance lost in Psonji.

: Plenty dead on all sides. I reckon both armies are headed home to lick their wounds.

: But don't worry, the duke's alive. Way I see it, he owes me some coin. I'm off to Almorica to collect.

The choice is yours, some things to note

1/ I was informed via PM there's legitimate end game reasons not to hire him now, and we will get another shot later.

2/ He's a level 9 berserker when we hire him. He will drop to level 1 when we hire him.

3/ I loving hate how stupid he is.

Hire him or not, the choice is yours.
