What is all of this

There was a huge festival arranged by Ja Rule and this promotion company with tons of ads from various instagram models just tooling around in the bahamas; there were VIP tickets that cost as much as $12k and that's not even the most expensive ones. They said they were going to do private jets from Miami to this "private island" that's apparently actually a Sandal's Resort island and ended up with no money to run jets and it's turned into this weird Lord of the Flies thing where the tents are leftover garbage from hurricane relief efforts, the biggest acts pulled out ahead of time, and poo poo just kind of went insane.

#FyreFestival is going insane on Twitter; if you scroll back about 900 posts you'll be into yesterday, when everything was pretty quiet and you can see all the tweets that were originally promoting the event and crowing over the line-up they were supposed to have.

EDIT: There are some great tweets from the "FyreFraud" twitter account, which has been talking poo poo about the upcoming festival for a while now.

At first I wasn't thrilled by this meme, but as it's become a bit more abstract I'm really liking it. especially the Mars Attacks alien version.

Where does this "Come back, bro!" thing come from? I've seen it mashed up with other memes but don't know the original reference (if there even was one).

Someone asked how fast you'd have to slap a rotisserie chicken to cook it since kinetic energy can be converted to thermal energy. The napkin math someone threw together found that you'd have to slap a chicken at approximately 1665.65 m/s to cook it in a single slap.

But not in any scientifically-robust "cooking a chicken all the way through" way. More in the "Suppose it's a perfectly round chicken in a frictionless vacuum" sort of way.

It's like the classic MRA chicken. The internal temperature of a cooked chicken should be 350, that's why you bake it at 350 degrees, duh.

Again, with the text not scanning to the original music. "This is my last resort" and "At this big rear end ski resort" don't have the same number of syllables. "Telepathy" and "Suffocation" don't have emphasis on the same syllables.

First and last panels are cool, though.

there's a beat in between pieces/this in the original song where you can stick "at" and make the first two panels fit the meter. that's totally acceptable imo; there are lots of songs where the mapping of syllables to notes changes from verse to verse (q.v. glo...o-o-o-o-o...o-o-o-o-o....o-o-o-o-o...ria) and it's fine.

Mapping syllables against the melody/beat differently from verse to verse is one thing, but putting a word on the downbeat when there wasn't one there originally pretty drastically changes the dramatic impact of the musical moment. I'm more in favor of dropping a word. It could just be "At this big-rear end resort". Do people even ski at the Overlook? Isn't the whole point that the place is closed when the snow starts falling?
