BRAWNY BUTTONS 4 LYFE

CratSock posted:

In all seriousness, they are certainly the most prolific. At 933 races entered, They're over 100 more than McLaren, almost 300 more than Williams, and teams like Sauber, Brabham, Lotus, and Tyrell are all in the 400's. Having that much of a presence means they're likely to have a good chunk of successful results in the series. I can see the attraction to a team with that much history, and I can't deny that they really are a big part of F1. I'm sure someone somewhere has modeled an overall "points per season" success list, which would be skewed, but interesting to see who is best in that sense, and in overall history regardless of years participating.

But, current Ferrari has been a bit of a mess, although they're looking very good this year. Every team has up and down swings, it's just fun to point and laugh when they do things like "all Italian engineers" or make comically bad strategy calls. As it is for Red Bull. Or *sniff* McLaren. :saddowns: The more successful a team is, the more likely someone is going to enjoy watching them struggle.

Wait what was this about? Why did they help Renault?

When Renault were having problems with the new engine formula Mercedes gave them a bit of assistance, because being both quicker and more reliable than your competitors gets really boring. For as much poo poo as Honda are getting, that first Renault engine was a pile of poo poo too. There's a reason Red Bull tried to get away until Renault sorted their act out.

Even in a shitbox outscoring your more experienced teammate in your first season isn't exactly underperforming

Aren't all Lego people yellow?

Originally all Lego people were yellow, but now some lines have skin tones because of all the licensed stuff they do. It's not correct that yellow=caucasian, but it is odd that they chose not to go with the skin colour minifigs for these models. But then they got the Petronas colour all wrong too, so who knows? Low effort branding, probably added late in the design process. My guess is Lego designed an F1 set and then did a deal with Mercedes to brand it.

  • Drivers' names and numbers will be made clearer on all cars from the Spanish Grand Prix on 12-14 May
  • Teams currently not on the strategy group - which has until now been restricted to Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, Williams, McLaren and Force India - will be invited
  • Controversial shark fins and so-called T-wings that have appeared on cars this season will be banned from 2018
  • Next year, any race that is stopped with a red-flag period will be resumed from a standing start
  • Measures will be taken to ensure that oil will not be used as fuel in 2018

Sounds pretty good with the exception of the standing starts after red flags. Races red flagged for weather will never restart.
