The writer has a Bush era fixation on "Islam". Its going to be loving ugly short of him writing fanfic of how he thinks Muslims should be. Even then that would probably be awful in other ways.

I'm not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt, because they have one writer and three staff and in a studio that size you must assume that they are on the same page regarding content.

It can't be, that'd be like 500 posts a day, every single day, for 9 straight years. I think they have some kind of weird system where you can artificially inflate your post count; I've seen a few accounts with 1.8 mil+ posts. Sort of like how it used to be possible on SA to pay to set your regdate to 9/11 lol

I wonder, just out of curiosity, how difficult it is to replace text in this game. Is it possible for some enterprising modder to change all the generally lovely tone in the text into something still fairly glum, but less chuddy?

Like most of the time I play the legends mod and use some of the added starts. I haven't noticed any egregious examples in their specific parts. They mostly lean on dark humor more than anything. ((Though feel free to point out instances where I am incorrect. I'd rather be informed.))

I'm also among the people who only recently found out that their writer is a shitler, which is problematic. Not all the writing in the game is bad, there is good stuff there, like the flashbacks to the time of the ancient dead, the witch hut event and sometimes simple stuff like saving a kid, or having the craftsmen in your company help build a house. And funny poo poo like the eunuchs "skills" or the bard events. Unfortunately there is cringe worthy stuff too, like the refugee description and the original ideas for the South.

I will still play the game and buy the DLC since this is among the best tactical rpgs available. If I'm correctly informed their writer is an external contractor and I don't want to punish a small studio for his brainworms. If I decided to only play games made by good people I would have to slash my gaming stash in half and delete any of the rpgs that Avellone had a hand in, anything related to Ubisoft and countless other games because the whole industry is so rotten.

I wonder if smoke pots will be prohibitively expensive - if not, maybe keeping a few on hand can mean freeing up rotation/footwork, which I basically have on every single brother, for another perk. Maybe just keep rotation on dedicated tanks and use smoke pots to disengage on a spot basis? Right now, rotation is too valuable for saving lives, but it's not like I need it on every brother every fight. Having a consumable tool that could help would be rad. Looking forward to proccing daze and shredding packs of orc youths/beserkers with my firearms

Based on how the video mentioned firearms work best on low/no-armor enemies and on packs of enemies, my initial thoughts on enemies that they would be especially good vs were: orc youth, a decent chunk of orc beserkers, weidergangers, and spider/direwolf packs. Of course they would work well against base raiders and nomads but who knows if we'll have our hands on them that early on in the game.

Liking the tweaks to fast adaptation and headhunter. Fearsome seems meh - it's not a perk I take on everyone but it seemed to be perfectly effective on the hammer specialists I did grab it on. I took an expert Ironman game to day 750 without relying on Indom/Adrenaline/Recover, but I focused on bros that could hit 90/40+ MA/MD w/o shields and gave them all two handers to dish out a lot of damage early and often. It basically means cherry picking 2+ star MA/MD bros forever, which mods like tryout talents makes a good bit easier. It’s a lot of luck of the draw too; I’ve had game with 4 hunters in party with 105 RA by day 300 and games with not a single decent ranged bro in the first 90 days.

Worth remembering that bros aren't the only ones with perks. Buffing 9 lives will make bandit leaders and vampires harder to kill.

drat good point, and one that probably applies to Fearsome too, though I don't know off the top of my head which enemies have it and what their morale scores are like

I’m no expert but considering bandit leaders tend to be the last enemy on the map, buffing nine lives (or just giving them nine lives in the first place) doesn’t affect things much at all
