This episode was everything, for me, that's been missing from Drag Race the past few seasons. This group of queens would have been amazing in a season like 2-4, where the queens gave no fucks and were in it for the crown. The only queens I believed would do anything for the crown were Trinity, Shea, Eureka and Valentina. Eureka went home and Valentina proved me wrong. The only queens I really felt were being genuinely themselves (or the heightened version reality tv brings out) were Trinity, Eureka, Nina, Farrah, Aja and Peppermint. Oh, and probably Cynthia Cucu Fontaine. A lot of that is the way the show is edited now, and a lot of it is the queens and the way the internet reacts to them with the prevalence of social media. There's just less drama, and lately less screentime of the queens working on the challenges and outfits in the werkroom. The drama is the biggest part of it. Not just because it's fun, but because seeing these people genuinely react to their fellow competitors humanizes them. When the queens are a bit messier they're more relatable, and the show is more fun. I've liked this season, but I can easily see it becoming like season 8, which I have no desire to rewatch other than Chi Chi's beads breaking when she lip syncs Thorgy, and maybe Derrick pointing out everything he hemmed. Speaking of humanizing, this episode really sold me on Sasha. I've always thought she was a fierce queen (though predictable, Shea was so right about Sasha needing to challenge herself more and step out of her box) and never really liked her. She's had little glimpses of being playful and shady, but most of the footage the editors picked for her has been her explaining things, or just the manufactured mirror moments when she's being supportive. Like, she's seemed nice and cool, but incredibly boring. Especially contrasted with Trinity, Peppermint and Shea. Seeing her reading the other girls, getting kind of bitchy and letting it out was super refreshing. She had some amazing sneers and eyerolls going on. It's a nice reminder she can't be nearly as holier-than-thou as her stans seem to think she is. This episode I could probably watch over and over again, and maybe the Untucked for this season. Maybe the finale, too. I unfortunately (maybe fortunately) know what's coming and who the top two are, and look forward to getting way too high and typing too many words after we see who wins next week. It'll be extra fun to discuss, because this episode was filmed after the one we get next week. Which is kind of a clusterfuck with what's coming. It's probably half the reason some of these girls are so salty in the reunion. e: on reflection Trinity is the only queen who seemed 100% genuine during the competition and in the confessionals. I love Aja and Farrah destroying the Ms Congeniality award; it really highlighted that ultimately we only get to see what the editors show us. outing Valentina as a massive bitch and calling her Ms Fan Favourite was great. I also sincerely hope they bring her back and she's an out and out bitch and they show it

Yeah based on reactions here and elsewhere I kinda expected Val to be unmasked as Drag Hitler but this really wasn't that. The reveal that she's a fake and calculating and manicures a completely artificial wholesome image actually didn't surprise me much. still  , sorry y'all

Opposite for me. I liked Valentina during the season but now I want to reach into the screen and throttle her. Aja redeemed herself, too. I actually liked her a lot. Her look's still "eh", but personality-wise, she came off a LOT better. Cucu and Kimora had exactly the right amount of screentime (slightly above zero). Charlie disappointed the gently caress out of me. Valentina's mask came off basically the moment she had her Miss Congeniality trophy, which was the most telling thing about her, IMO. I literally metaphorically literally died when Eureka said "I thought I was a big girl until I saw your nose". Alexis was Alexis. [saltmine.jpg] Nina continues being my mental doppelganger, which is a great reminder to get out of my own head and stop imagining everyone is out to get me. Shea actually came off worse to me. She went from "Unafraid to tell it like it is" to "girl, are you hangry? Do you want some of my tuna sub? I will split the cookie with you if you want." Sasha's grin at the "Russia didn't hack the election" line made me love her even more. I wish she'd had more screen time, though. Peppermint, too. She was just sorta there, for the most part, though she got more time than Sasha. Jayne was there, I think? At least she made a slightly larger impact here than she did in the competition. I also loved Ru's laid back approach, and willingness to just let the drama go. Overall, I think it was my favorite reunion.

Aside from the indefensible bullshit she pulled with the fan situation, I'm surprised by the vehement backlash I'm seeing around. Maybe Villaintina is real but tbh it seems more like the mask is there to hide shyness/introversion/general social awkwardness rather than being purely manipulative. But whatever, best reunion yet. According to reddit T about the finale format the top two were decided that night so I guess that explains why some of the top 4 weren't pulling any punches in the reunion.

I love that the queens are speaking out their mind enough to make up for the whole season. Though at the same time it skirted uncomfortably close to bullying at points. It wasn't just Alexis or Nina or Charlie that were stubborn with their point of view in that reunion. Anyway, Farrah
