The location was never stated outright, but it was filmed in the North Bay of California and had enough establishing shots of the geography and bridges and poo poo so that's where it takes place in my mind.

I could get behind him mishearing people from time to time but Clay straight up has full on visual hallucinations that go on for 5-10 seconds at a time. Homeboy really needs to see someone about that. I hate that whole "main character does a crazy plot advancing thing oh wait no he's just thinking about it and actually does nothing" fakeout trope and this show used it like ten times.
