It's very much a Rick-move that Rick convinced those scientists to take Rick and Morty's place in the menagerie instead of giving them the plans for the same craft but with two extra seats.

The Father-Daughter bonding-scene where they make a clone of Tommy is one of the rare moments where things worked out, like the trip to Atlantis. So far Rick and Morty have escaped the first universe they ruined. They may or may not have left again because Morty hosed with the Squirrels. Jerry may have been mixed up with another Jerry at the Daycare centre. Beth may or may not be a clone. Rick has body-surfed other Ricks and even died and is now a clone since his fight with himsef. So Morty may be the only original family-member since the pilot. They will never top the raping and eating of muppets for the sheer nausea-factor.
