A truly Australian story we can all relate to.

Seriously, that's like a daily occurrence down under.

Oh another fun fact about utes. I watch a lot of Australian dash-cam vids and when something amazingly stupid happens it's very likely to be done by someone driving a ute. They seem to attract a certain "type"

Falcon and Commodore utes especially (there's something of a Ford/Holden fan rivalry) seem to be somewhere between the Aussie equivalent of Bro Trucks (not that you don't get people with decked out tacky 4WDs too, and they're just as obnoxious as you think) and tuners/muscle cars.

It's kinda funny watching say, My Name Is Earl, because the El Camino is rare and unusual there while in Australia, especially rural Australia, it's pretty normal. (although a lot of rural Australians own what Americans would probably call small SUVs, like Uncle Barry's, which are genuinely useful for a family that transports kids, livestock and farm equipment in the same car sometimes on the same day, on paved, gravel and dirt roads)

Rick and Morty is already basically built around the ordeal of a kid with an unstable abusive substance abusing parent, and Bushland just takes it even closer to home.

I thought season 3 was laying it on pretty thick how despite technically fulfilling the wish fulfilment tropes, Rick is a broken, desperately unhappy person unable to effectively function in any society, very clearly demonstrated by the society that's literally made by, for and of Ricks being just as, if not more dysfunctional, divided and oppressive as the society of its viewers.

Women are a notable issue, though also something that seems to be evolving; Rick has started to involve Summer and Beth more, and on the other hand, the Citadel, notable for being many of Rick's worst impulses institutionalised, is basically incredibly sexist, and considers 'radicalising a Summer' as a major crime for the show's main Rick letting her in on his adventures. And Morty, well, I don't even know where to start. Also might be notable that it's a woman who basically calls Rick out on his immaturity and unhealthy attitudes towards people.

The show kinda strikes me as following Venture Bros' themes, and that's very much a 'boys without a mother's supervision' theme, the creators have admitted.

Rick definitely isn't detached. He's practically defined by his obsessions that he pursues at the expense of everything else. See the sechzuan sauce joke.

I think generally Rick almost never leaves a situation better than when he arrived. (aside from stuff like Mr Needful, where he's mostly a counterpoint to hackneyed plot devices) Most of the most interesting parts of the show are in his wake or outright irrelevant to it, including brutal critiques of capitalism. (see the aftermath of the purge planet, or the entire drat Galactic Federation)

Aussie Rick doesn't seems to have much in the way of permanence himself. It's funny how much of that is just stereotypical bogan behaviour and how well it fits his usual self-centred personality and self-serving memory.

I think normal guns are mostly illegal in Australia. (At least, I assumed this was the case, which I thought made it funny.)

Yeah, it's very unusual and alarming to see a pistol being carried by anyone but a police officer, even criminals are more likely to use shotguns, while most farmers have shotguns and/or rifles. (being exceptions to the strict gun laws. They weren't so strict until the Port Arthur Massacre)

There's something very absurd and different yet familiar of the whole tone of Bushworld Adventures with unrelenting weirdness where it's impossible to tell how much Rick is taking seriously or makes up as he goes along. Which, again, is pretty much how people live in Australia.

The funny part being all the violence and insanity is a completely mundane day for Rick and actually having to deal with a therapist is exceptional and insightful. He already bores himself silly with how cliche his pickle rick adventures are to the point where there's nothing left to do but actually go to the therapist.

Ghost Leviathan

And the AA battery-powered laser gun. As gratuitous action sequences go, Pickle Rick has some particularly creative and ridiculous ones. Plus, Danny Trejo parodying himself. I think it might actually have been one of the first episodes of the show I've seen in full.

And at the end of it Rick seems to realise he's ultimately accomplished absolutely nothing that he particularly cares about besides completely humiliate himself in front of his family and their therapist.

This is the thing that kinda scares me, because I feel like Harmon's video is the sort of thing that falls under crazy artists trying to create art, and I feel like we definitely need people to be free to create Doc and Mharti if we're gonna get stuff like Rick and Morty. I don't want whatever crazy artist who's gonna come up with the next nerd sensation never get out of his basement because his early stuff had baby rape jokes and he was too afraid to post it and get criticism to refine his work.

It's absolutely intended to (or at least going to) punish people for taking risks and coming out of nontraditional places rather than making inoffensive, lowest-common-denominator entertainment.

I think it's the kind of thing that just happens when you have a dam bursting; animation being no longer limited strictly to kid-friendly channels and allowing the depiction of poo poo that you'd have a much harder time getting away with or portraying in live-action means people immediately flock to push the boundaries and try to outdo the last person.

0.3% seems to be giving it an extreme amount of credit.

Like, this guy actually got in trouble for sexual harassment and apologised, iirc. If it was actually true, the hammer would have come down long ago, and for that matter most of the studio would be considered complicit if they hadn't reported it, as well as y'know, watching child porn as reference material.

I still hope they have a Citadel episode with a Rick and Morty in straw boaters and canes, and they go

"I'm Razzle Rick!"

"I'm Dazzle Morty!"

"And we're Razzle Dazzle Rick and Morty!"

And then they tapdance.
