all corpses work, Clarks just works better

Dabir
Nov 10, 2012

Philip Farmer aka Clarks was a guy who was pretty good at chemistry, creating stuff like foams that mixed smoke if you set them off near a monkey, did neat tricks like mixing chems in bees. At the end of the day the reason he's not around any more, and the reason there's code labelled fuck_clarks, his corpse is better engine food etc, isn't because anything he did in game was particularly bad. It's because he was a constant downer on IRC, always casually insulting everyone, was asked to chill out a bunch of times, didn't, was banned from IRC for making it miserable and threw a poo poo fit and apparently quit the game over it.

I kinda wonder what the feasibility of adding 'prebaked' mechanics devices / mechanic support to stuff in the game. Like airlocks or mass drivers. So that those devices can than be modified / sabotaged / turned into devious traps

Mechanics support is doable with a little recoding, I believe prebaked connections are a little more tricky but I imagine they're not impossible.

If you want to manipulate doors, the superior way is to through the wifi anyway.

Dabir
Nov 10, 2012

I would like more stuff to be directly tied into mechcomp, though. My only concern is right now it's very easy to remove all connections from something and very annoying to restore them all, and there's no way to remove individual connections.

I miss the bug, pre stamina and running, where pressing 1 on the numpad to move southwest made you move so much faster than any other direction. Saved my butt many a time.

I don't think that was a bug, it was just that 7, 9 and 3 were all assigned to hotkeys but there was nothing for 1 so it was 'move south-west' when no other diagonal key existed.

Speaking of antags and sec...

There's a mode called 'spy-thief' at the moment. A few crewmembers spawn as spy-thieves, with the objective to kill off all other spy-thieves and escape on the shuttle as the sole remaining antag. They have a list of various lootable objects around the station (ranging from innocuous baubles to fellow crewmember limbs to the cloner), and these can be uploaded for traitor gear. Upload six items, and you get an ID tracker that just flat-out tells you who and where the other spy-thieves are.

Someone realized you could just walk up to sec and go 'hey I'm a spy-thief, please escort me around the station while I loot stuff so I can give you guys the ID tracker and we can hunt down the other, less co-operative spy-thieves'. Now, every single spy-thief round is determined by which spy-thief is the quickest to turn themselves in.

If anyone's still confused about what good security looks like: Good sec would baton anyone who tries this in the face and throw them out the nearest airlock.

It just does not look like it's happening. This is a private project now and forever. To be fair, this started as a private project; if the people who started it don't want to trend towards more openness, that's their decision. It's just incredibly disappointing.

Regardless of whether they were Literal Nazis or Transphobes or Just Misunderstood, it's pretty clear a few of these admins were bad fits for the server culture in general and for the admin team in particular. My questions are these:

1. How are you going to select people to be admins so you don't get bad fits in the future?
2. If someone misbehaves or turns out to be a bad fit, how are you going to handle these issues so that it doesn't blow up into another massive shitfest?
3. How are you going to improve transparency so these issues are handled and settled out in the open, instead of becoming "he-said-she-said-they-said" chat-log posting drama bombs?

I was interested and dedicated enough to stick around for that entire town hall, and when these questions were repeatedly brought up, the repeated answer was "We're working on it". If you want to improve transparency, work on it publicly! Make a forum post and invite discussion. It just doesn't make sense.

45 minutes later, people were still reporting in utter shock that there were emagged borgs running around murdering everyone. Who could have done this?!
