Instead if watching the whole Go! Princess Precure movie, skip the first two parts and just stick to the cg action segment at the end.

Just finished watching Revue Starlight. Holy poo poo, that was intense and fascinatingly beautiful. Also don't be fooled into thinking it's "just an idol/musical anime"- It's absolutely a magical girls show in the style of Revolutionary Girl Utena. If you loved Utena, you will love the first episode of Starlight Revue. Please watch this really cool show everyone!

Like this bit from Princess for example: In the latest Hugtto episode it explicitly says that Ruru and Emiru love each other and want to remain together forever. As much as I like the characters, the fight scenes in sailor moon felt too simple most of the time (also I've been spoiled on more modern day precure, so it's even harder to go back to nowadays. The slice of life stuff still holds up fairly well though.

It's also really dumb because it is explicitly a gay romance here. Just check out this clip. https://youtu.be/4wdEE4PRfMk

It's 100% supposed to be Emiru. Lulu/Ruru is a classic case of L and R ambiguity, though on screen text essentially confirmed it is supposed to be Ruru.

Larryb posted:Off the subject but I forget, was there an in-story reason why all the Kira Kira Cures were modeled after animals despite the show itself generally having a cooking/food theme? The kira kira design, as good as they are, are very busy, and I'm assuming that the creative minds behind this series wanted to distinguish the characters more from each other, and them each having animal powers/traits definitely does a good job of that.

Larryb posted:Speaking of Kira Kira, somehow it just dawned on me that Gelato (an ice cream lion)'s civilian name literally means "Blue Mane" (Aoi Tategami). Are the other characters also similar puns and have they done this for other Precure shows as well? I know in Suite the main protagonist is named Sound (Hibiki) at least. Yes. For Usami Ichika, "Ichika" means "Strawberry flower" and "Usami" is very similar to "Usagi" which means "Rabbit". Arisugawa Himari has "rise" in it, which means "Squirrel". Kotozume Yukari has "Zume" which can mean "fingernail" or "claw", and "Yukari" is an outdated word for Violet. And for Kenjou Akira, The kanji for "Ken" here means sword, but "Ken" is sometimes used as the reading for the Kanji 犬 "Inu", which means "Dog"

I could see things going either way, depending on the logistics of merchandise production- they might make this series shorter to try to stick to a similar yearly production cycle, or they might be able to push it back, so that the next season starts later than February, and then use that as their new seasonal starting point for the foreseeable future.

Definitely a bigger fan of the character designs in this one over the last couple of seasons. They come across as way more vibrant, especially with all the hair accessories and stylings. And yeah the pink haired, blue eyed girl doesn't have a matching shell accessory on her chest, so I think she is either the seal or another character closely related to it.

It was a very middle of the road season for me. Definitely a step up from how bland Star Twinkle was, but I didn't care for the mascot characters or the extra precure this season, and yeah the hiatus likely affected the original plans for the season in ways we may never know. But I'm very much looking forward to the new season, and hope it'll be rather funny and gorgeous.

I imagine it's a lot more cost effective, especially time wise, to animate clip show ep than a full episode of new material, which would makes sense given they were dealing with a hiatus due to covid that affected the production of the show as well
