I've gotten into watching not only current Pancrase since moving here to Asia, but watching the old Pancrase stuff I never got to see (Rutten, Shamrock, etc.) and I kind of want to say I love it because of just how unique it is even now like 20 years later.

That or it's because I love that the belts are just called "King/Queen of Pancrase" and that just has an old pro-wrestling vibe to it that is neat :allears:

The first Woodley v Wonderboy fight was fantastic imo. Has there ever been a bigger discrepancy in terms of the entertainment value of the first fight vs the second fight?

Robbie Lawler/Rory MacDonald. The first one was so uneventful I bet most people forgot it even happened and the second is one of the best fights ever. The Maynard/Edgar trilogy is a decent example too because the first fight was subpar but the next two were nuts.

UFC just added the first episode of a new series they did called Sound Waves. It previously aired back in March on FS1 but I don't think many people paid attention to it since I don't recall it ever being talked about.

Here's the info pack on it, sounds pretty much like the Dana White VLOGs where he'd show you behind the scenes stuff from a previous event only this is tracking one specific fighters career.

quote:

Throughout it's history, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has produced so many unforgettable images that we might overlook its extraordinary soundtrack. In this sport that delivers unparalleled drama, what you see only tells half the story. No UFC star has made more noise than 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor. On this episode, we'll recall his most memorable moments on the mic. Listen in to Conor's corner and learn that no matter what, McGregor gets the last laugh.

Predictably the first episode is all about Conor McGregor - https://www.ufc.tv/video/episode-1-conor-mcgregor

Edit - After watching a bit, it's not really all that much more than just clips from previous videos etc. that you would've watched if you were obsessed with UFCs videos (like I am).

Also, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for great comeback fights?

This came to mind after I watched this fight - Dan Kelly v Antonio Carlos Junior: https://www.ufc.tv/video/dan-kelly-vs-antonio-carlos-junior-ufc-fight-night

Not a classic by any means but Kelly was getting clowned in the first round and came back strong to get the finish in the third .

please tell me you saw elkins vs bektic recently. it's one of the craziest things i've ever loving seen. also frankie edgar / gray maynard 2 and 3. silva / sonnen 1. lawler / manhoef. they're all classics though.

e: jds / stipe 1, jds / cain 1, 2 and 3 if you watch it all as one big fight, pat barry and cheick congo lol, one i wouldn't recommend watching because the fight itself isn't great but you have to understand what an insufferable prick jacob volkmann was but, green vs volkmann, fedor / randleman, akiyama / leben, loving rory and condit yeah.

Hell yes, I'll start.

Fabricio Werdum (c) vs. Stipe Miocic. Stipe wasn't expected to win this one, and it was in front of 45,000 of Werdum's countrymen and women. It's not the best fight in that it only lasts a couple of minutes but I think it really shows Stipe's accuracy with his hands and his ability to floor a retreating opponent.

Junior dos Sants vs. Mark Hunt. Great showcase of top level heavyweight striking, goes a long way into the third and when was the last time you saw a spinning hook kick KO?

Joanna Jędrzejczyk (c) vs. Cláudia Gadelha. Joanna Champion was actually behind on all three judges' score cards going into the fourth, but Cláudia had basically used up everything she had to get into the championship rounds, and she got ripped apart by the buzzsaw of volume and precision that Joanna brings.

Jessica Andrade vs. Joanne Calderwood. Good showcase of why Jessica deserves to be in this championship fight. She still gon' get torn up by the champ though.

Demian Maia vs. Carlos Condit. "Yeah we know Demian is really good and his BJJ is on another level to basically everyone who has ever fought in the UFC, but this fight is the real test of whether he can hang with the big boys at 170". Turns out, yeah, he can.

Jorge Masvidal vs. Donald Cerrone. Sorry Cowboy, but I have to include this one. Jorge demonstrated his toughness and actually managed to knock Cowboy out twice in this fight.

Frankie Edgar (c) vs. Gray Maynard II. This is one of the insane wars that Edgar was having against top level opposition during his title run. Amazing back and forth fight that showed off how good both of them are.

Yair Rodriguez vs. Andre Fili. The most insane KO from 2016 showed off just how loving good Yair's kicks are. I didn't put the BJ Penn fight because that was just sad to watch.

Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. Henry Cejudo. I like Henry but I'm never going to pass up a chance to throw up a link to the best combat sports athlete of all time. Cejudo is an Olympic gold medalist, one of only three to ever compete in the UFC, so you know his wrestling skills are world class. He had strung together a 10-fight winning streak before facing the champ, and his boxing was giving his opponents trouble as well, with four of those victories coming via stoppage from his fists. Then Mighty Mouse derailed him as hard as any prospect has been derailed, cleaning him up with knees to the body in less than three minutes.

Sergio Pettis vs. John Moraga. This is a good demonstration of Pettis' abilities, he does damage to Moraga without exposing himself too much, worked him over with his jab for three rounds and showed off some good ground game.
