Especially as pointed out, it's barely being connected to the overall theme, and it's often used not as a means for a woman to overcome it, but for your male stand-in character to swoop in and rescue them. It's the GoT Issue, where it seems when they're clutching at straws at giving a woman a problem, they fall back on implicit or explicit threat of sexual violence or shame.

I wouldnt go that far I get the genereal theme they are going for and I feel they succeeded at that. They just fall into aspects of what they are arguing against themselves Then again I dont know how many writers this game had.

The massage is actually incredible and most people blitz her Confidant for it ASAP because if you’re going into the Metaverse with any frequency you’re lamenting that lost time. Yeah, I might not have cared for all the overtones myself, but I do really like Kawakami and her link, and Michelle Ruff's performance is a big part of why. As unfortunate the nature of the problem we have to help her with is, I just find the subversion of expectation going into her link to be too good: when Maaku first meets her, it is assumed that she is distant because she believed the smear campaign against Maaku, but the camaraderie of a shared secret enables us (if we pursue it) to find out that it has nothing to do with Maaku- it's because being forced to take care of another delinquent causes her feelings of regret and shame of her greatest failure, not even her fault it turns out. And in taking care of the Takases in Mementos, we remove the element from Kawakami's life that was causing imbalance, and in returning balance she finds the renewed purpose represented by the upright Temperance card. It feels good helping her... especially given that we refused the chance to abuse this trust. And drat, but that Massage is a godsend, especially if you are a crazy person and trying to shotgun all the links in one go; being able to go out after dungeons/Mementos is huge.

They may have gone a bit too far with some of the stuff she said in her final link, but to be fair the mc is responsible for a major turn around in her life. She used to truly believe in being a teacher and through no fault of her own she got completely screwed. So she was unable to help her students as she quite simply did not have the energy to do even if she wanted to because of having to take a side job to buy off the Takases to prevent them from ruining her career. What makes it really twisted is that even though doing what she does allow her to keep on teaching, she is fully aware of just how much of a lovely teacher she is being and to her it appears that there is no way out. Then Maaku rolls in and manages to free her from the past and allow her to once again give everything she has to being a teacher.

It totally makes sense that Kawakami would see Maaku as more than just a student - he pretty much saved her life. It doesn't have to be romantic for him to be special to her. Admittedly, it helps that you avoided any dialogue that would have led to the actual romance choice.
