I'm not sure how to feel about the writing for the game. Like others have said, it starts off strong, tapers off, and never reaches the same high points again. From what I remember of Persona 4, it was always consistent and decent enough. Never played P3 so I can't really comment on that.

there's a few patches of P4 that's rough, but it feels like overall, it's far more consistent than P5, P3 on the other hand starts off slow and backloads the drama. Also they really need to stop making Anime cutscenes - p3 looks like they're in the wrong aspect ratio, 4's didn't add anything, and it's clear in 5 they had to awkwardly shoehorn in things because the script had gone through massive changes since they did the cutscenes, making it uneven. Especially now it's clear they can do in-engine cutscenes that look really drat good and probably wouldn't suffer from 'crap it no longer fits' problem.

Yeah... I always get fairly amused whenever somebody in the thread keeps identifying some of our targets as Worst Human Being Alive, only to find another contender coming along a few updates later. Pointing out the horror and abuse of a terrible situation in reality that the law does not (and sometimes cannot) handle for whatever reason and then offering the emotional catharsis of dealing with that situation yourself is kinda what the game's all about after all... and in order to make that work for a whole game, we have to include some really, really rotten apples. It's hardly subtle or nuanced storytelling, but it's entertaining enough, I find.

According to a quick Google, the “Special Investigation Teams” (SIT) are groups of specialized detectives armed with cutting-edge technology and tactics to capture criminals in serious and often lethal cases such as bombings, aircraft hijackings, and kidnappings. So uh, a bunch of supercops with all the gear, weapons, and training they need to find us and kick our poo poo in. Great. The SIU in P5 is, I guess, a fictionalized version of this, though they don’t seem to actually do anything as of yet and their director is not just hopelessly corrupt but an active member of a political conspiracy. So just like real life! I also have no idea why Sae, a public prosecutor, seems to answer directly to this chucklefuck, but whatever. Kamoshida was pure evil, too, but he was a real kind of evil. Hell, it’s implied Madarame and Okumura seemed to have some genuine affection for Yusuke and Haru, and even loving Kaneshiro at least had the thin layer of insecurity revealed in his Palace. This motherfucker just seems like he should be tying helpless damsels to the railroad tracks in between bulldozing orphanages to make room for his oil drills. No, you know what? That’s not right. This obsequious shithead couldn’t massage his nuts without prior written instructions, so forgive me for presuming he could show some goddamn initiative. The only things he’s done in the entire game so far is be sexist at Sae and chuckle evilly at the magnificence of this dreadful plot to exterminate the Phantom Thieves. This character is such a lame plot device that despite him being the sole face of the conspiracy for most of the game and one of like three characters Sae interacts with to any real frequency, they never actually give him a name. The SIU thing might actually be an obscure Ghost in the Shell reference. Production IG did the in-game animation (you can tell from their bloom effects, no other studio I know uses green bloom) which is also why the game opens up with 2 helicopters flying around a brightly lit skyline at night: that's how all GITS media opens and Production IG is known for their stellar work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The second season of Stand Alone Complex also featured the SIU, an investigative branch of law enforcement, a corruption riddled enemy to Section 9, the series protagonists. It also seems to me that the SIU Director's office in the game has a great deal in common with Aramaki's office and the Section 9 headquarters, especially in the details on the wood panelling.
