Hifumi was originally meant to be one of the thieves, but she probably would've overlapped with Haru too much in personality and/party dynamic (it may explain why her S. Link abilities are all over the place, she's the catch all for the stuff that didn't anywhere else).

I think people take this "Hifumi was originally meant to join the party" trivia and read WAY too much into it. We're probably talking about the very early planning stages, when all they had were a bunch of character designs and a vague outline of the plot. I very much doubt that that former role of hers (or rather, of her character design) has literally any observable effect on the final game. Her abilities have the theme of expanding your tactical options, because she's a shogi player. If nothing else, the game has clearly gone through heavy rewrites that don't seem to involve her in the slightest.

Yeah, that's a good point: Ann's little arc seemed to be more about the acknowledgement of her own privilege. Haru's arc so far seems to be more about growing a spine and learning to assert one's own desires and individuality

yeah, haru is about as far from a prince-and-pauper archetype as you can get one imagines the only reason she hasn't already gotten cracking on redistributing her wealth is because she's currently being stymied by her stockholders, which is nothing a few mysteriously severed brake lines can't solve

Yeah, that doesn't describe Haru, her being rich is pretty incidental, that rant describes Ann a lot more - especially how she pissed off the bitchy model by admitting she doesn't diet or do anything to take care of her looks, and didn't really give a flying gently caress about her job (with heavy implication she got it because her parents are in the industry).

Haru's wealth and resources are absolutely front and center of her story but it's not about being spoiled because while she benefits from it -- renting out Disneyland, buying $50 cups of coffee on a whim -- it's also burdensome to her. She's not pining to be poor or something, but she feels the need to be responsible with the company and those who work in it in a way that is in direct opposition to how her father ran it. She is acutely aware of her privilege and wants to be active in using to advance her beliefs when up till now she's been very passive about letting that wealth control her. All the kids in #millennials were pawns and part of their individual stories is how they stop being mere observers of their own lives.
