You can use Xen and the performance is great, I've helped my best friend set it up on his Ryzen desktop. You have to patch the driver to fix the Code 43 "bug", and that's it.

Oh, that's nice to know. Thanks for the link:waycool:

I thought the FlareX stuff was especially tested with the new AMD chips. And they are 4 sticks of 8GB, so it is 32 GB.

Looks good on qvl.

They really are hammering the x299 platfrom

Except for those wanting to do vfio passthrough, because that is broken as gently caress. :stonklol:
There the x299 platform is supposedly smooth sailing/turn-key etc.

It's not that bad, there's just one very old bug with KVM/GPU passthrough/Nested Page Tables that needs to be fixed.
Please comment on this bug for better exposure if you care about this functionality: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196409

Did that:hchatter:

But what I was refering to was pcie devices getting stuck in D3 state or whatever the hell it does: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6vbe6w/threadripper_broken_on_linux_for_pci_passthrough/

Was only kidding, because that's almost word-for-word a tweet from him.

Still though, what is it with KVM that keeps it around, specifically? Xen and QEMU and the one other one whose name I can't remember are all working fine now, aren't they?

Xen can't lie to the guest like KVM does. If you have an Nvidia card you want to pass-through, you won't be able to install drivers for it. Thanks Nvidia.

There's a patch to disable the virtualization check in the Nvidia drivers but I still want working KVM support for reasons. :colbert:

Don't play games that checks for anti-cheat with that.

But also, TR just fails in passing any pcie devices. Even with the pci=nommconf stuff :bang:
