If you own a old second gen i5 with a 1070 and 144hz gsync monitor, is it wiser to get a ryzen 1700 or a 7700k? Strictly for gaming.

If you own a 144hz monitor with a modern gpu, but it is being terribly bottlenecked in the rear end by a lovely second gen i5 and wanna upgrade, would it be smarter to just get a 7700K or a Ryzen 1600/1700 and then upgrade to a zen 2 in like 2 years? Assuming of course that you won't need to change socket.

WTF happened in Anandtech's review? Those numbers must be very off, I seriously doubt the meltdown and spectre patches affect gaming with Intel that much.

So has there been an explanation for why the AnandTech benchmarks gave like a +30% Ryzen 2 gaming advantage over Intel? Some say Intel's security patches lowered performance, others say it was something with RAM speeds running at the minimum supported for each platform. My uncle that works at AMD says they accidentally sent a ZEN 7nm sample.

I know Zen 2 is coming in the next 6 months, but if you want to game at 144hz/play single threaded dependent games like most mmrpgs or old ones like Starcraft 2, would it be wiser to just get a 9600k now instead of Ryzen? I know it's probably bad value due to low threads, but still...

I believe Zen 3 will still be slower than Intel at playing games like Starcraft 2 and Farcry 5, but only like 5% slower and better at everything else. Oh and emulators like RPCS3 with Intel instruction sets, but that's more of job for software developers to optimize.
