DAD LOST MY IPOD posted:as someone not super familiar with U.K. politics, 1) The Tories majority is 6, they can lose seats and still get a majority but not many. 2) fairly likely, Labour are looking almost certain to increase their vote share on 2010 and 2015, so could pick up a few seats. However, the absence of any real third party makes that all up in the air as there was the Lib Dems in 2010 and UKIP in 2015 to split votes. It's entirely possible that Labour increase their share of the vote but lose seats (as they did in 2015).

May acting as a fifth column in Europe and preventing us from putting up a united front against Trumpism is a far bigger threat than Corbyn's animus towards the USA which is actually mainstream in Europe right now. There's nothing in his manifesto that would weaken or destabilise Britain either but I admit a minority Labour government might do so if some of his MPs act the same way towards him as Prime Minister as they do as leader.

BarronsArtGallery posted:how in the loving gently caress did Tories win seats in Scotland? Nicola Sturgeon has been pushing IndyRef2 despite support for it plummeting leading to unionist SNP voters, who were apparently a thing, being scared off for fear of their vote for the SNP being seen as an endorsement of a second referendum. The Tories had already managed to better position themselves as the party of the union before Sturgeon claimed the leader of ScotLab supported another referendum, pushing more unionists in that direction. SNP voters are single issue voters who handed the election to the Tories. If so-called socialist SNP voters truly are socialists, they need to switch to Labour and elect an actual left wing government because independence isn't happening. They can also kick the lovely Blairites out of power in ScotLab while they're at it.

That people think Corbyn is far left is really an indictment of how far right political thought has shifted. The fact that Lord Owen who split from the party over Foot endorsed Corbyn should be enough to show that without having to start comparing the Labour manifesto to Foot's suicide note.

He's said he can't reconcile being the leader of the Liberal Democrat and his Christian values, so it's absolutely because he's a homophobe and is afraid he's pissed off Jesus with his mealy mouthed half answers on whether he thinks gay sex is a sin. I just hope he is now able to discover the truth about whether or not chemicals are turning the frogs and the fish gay.
