The cosmology in Stiches is kind of weird because the/a devil can do a deal for your soul when you're under duress (that the/a devil directly puts you into) and it totally counts for some reason.

Ah, they operate under the same loose definition as the djinn from Wishmaster. (Which I think would be a fun riff, but maybe it's too graphic?)

I could be misremembering, but I’m pretty sure the guy behind that one eventually gave up, and this was made by completely different people.

Yeah, they had a sketch during the Manos Live that was removed from the digital/DVD releases.

e: oh god I just remembered that at they end they had a video of Torgo signing "Take It Easy" on top of that.

IIRC there was an article on Playboy's website that went into the history of Manos and touched on that guy and how he spent a couple of years running around claiming he owned the copyright to Manos.

No, this sequel comes from Jackey Neyman Jones, who played the little girl in the original Manos and reprises the role as an adult in this sequel, which also features her real-life father who played the Master. I haven't seen it and I'm sure it sucks, but if anyone should be allowed to cash in on loving Manos, I'm glad it's them.

It'd be nice, but I guess it didn't make economic sense given that they make like dozens of VoDs per just-the-jokes riffs (and I think most of those have been kickstarter stretch goals). It's a shame because the app actually kind of works like it's supposed to now.

It'd be interesting to look at their business model. I'm guessing the stuff where they can have movie + riffs makes the most money, which is why they don't trip over themselves to do Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor or something similar.

Also, honestly, a big problem they were having for years before they started doing VODs?

Yeah, the best stuff they did in their MP3-only phase were the weird idiosyncratic movies like Wicker Man and Battlefield Earth. Movies that made odd choices and ran with them. It’s a lot harder to bite into something like Iron Man or Hunger Games where they’re all about playing it safe.

Eh, why go for Pearl Harbor when Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is right there in front of you? I mean it's a Transformers movie made during a writers strike so it's particularly incoherent, with none of the incompetent 'charm' of say Avatar or Battlefield Earth. Just a great riff and definitely a miss if you usually only go for VODs.

How's it hanging, brah?
Vengeance of the Dead

quote:

With a title like Vengeance of the Dead, you might assume it's an Italian zombie flick from the 70s, or the placeholder title for the first draft of a George Romero screenplay.

But you’re in luck, because it’s much stranger than that: Vengeance of the Dead is the bone-chilling tale of a young man visiting his grandpa, and several other grandpas!

Young Eric returns to the sleepy farming town of Harvest to see his grandfather, but spends most of the trip alone in a dark bedroom, making this one of the most realistic depictions of a teenager ever put on film. Eric is visited in his sleep by the ghost of a little girl (the spooky “la la la la laaaaa la’s” are implied) who leads him to dig up a corpse and burn it. Kind of grim, but she also helps him find a spoon, so it all evens out!

As it turns out, this town is full of drunk grandpas, and they all look like Eric’s drunk grandpa. There’s Drunk Driving Grandpa, Disturbing Horny Grandpa*, and School Bus Grandpa, the grandpa who lives in a school bus. These drunk grandpas have a disturbing past, and it’s up to Eric and his ghostly friend to figure it out.

It’s straight-to-video horror magic, kinda like Feeders but with fewer aliens and more grandpas. Dig your best spoon out of the backyard and join Mike, Kevin and Bill for Vengeance of the Dead!

*disclaimer: the movie contains one legitimately disturbing scene of a grandpa ogling his teenage granddaughter.

I feel like you'd have to attach a ball and chain to get the guys to get them to watch another Transformers movie and even then there's a risk they would attempt to gnaw off their own foot at the ankle.
