I don't think he actually raped anyone, he was a massive creep and sexual harressed people though.

But he's also had one of the best film openings of the year and he's been kept out of most headlines so expect him to be back within the year.

Do you mean Bright? Because I'm not sure a movie premiere on a streaming service can count as a film opening. Besides he's already been replaced for the sequel. Netflix dug themselves into a hole with Danny Masterson and they're going to be extra cautious about associating with any accused.

Is there a thread for that show yet where I can preemptively bitch about him refusing to do the second season because he has unrealistic goals?

Place your bets. Will he:

Pull a Hannibal and last 3 seasons
Pull a Pushing Daisies and last 2 seasons
Pull an American Gods and last 1 season
Pull a Dead Like Me and last half a season
Pull a Wonderfalls and last 4 episodes
Pull a Star Trek and beam out before it even starts

You know there's more to this story, right?

I mean, look: it's not just Fuller who left the project, it's also Brian Michael Green -- the other showrunner. Now two actors have quit in solidarity. To me, that sounds a bit more complicated.

(I think that it's also notable that neither Fuller nor Green seem to have said much about the matter.)

Pull a Wonderfalls and last 4 episodes [before Fox's executive meddling hosed over the show, which then got cancelled because of low ratings]
Pull a Star Trek and beam out before it even starts [from which he was fired because loving CBS]

I contest the idea that Fuller is some sort of crazy diva. He's a perfectionist, yes, and he has noncommercial impulses. Why are these contemptible qualities in a creative type?

Seems like Fuller had a peak experience with Hannibal: he got to do essentially what he wanted while surrounded by actors he really enjoyed working with. Unfortunately, that show took an amazing amount of effort and sacrifice to realize, and it doesn't seem like he's willing to make those concessions right now.

Steve Yun posted:

Yeah, that's what? $7.5M USD in subscriptions if you are being generous? Ten million seems like a big ask for the season, much less an episode. How many CGI dragons did he need?

Ah well, shame, but it's not like if you enjoy his visual/artistic style you wont flit off to his next project. I know I'll be watching whatever this Anne Rice honeypot is... :tviv:

edit: actually, after thinking on it for a minute, asking for $10M sounds like he was asking to get let go so he could go work on this vampire thing. :drac:

They parted ways because what he wanted to do was taking way too long and they wanted to get the show out as soon as possible.

The ten million thing stretches credulity a bit. It's certainly possible, but the general sloppiness and vagueness give me a sense that maybe it's stretching a bit further than it has solid foundation for. It came from "unnamed sources close to the production" from Variety which used vague wording and an incomplete sentence (it's missing the "was"), and then got copied from news site to news site until it became fact. The way it was presented never made it clear how these negotiations normally go, nor what was the specific cause of the impasse here. There was also mention of clash in "creative direction".

Starz ran a hit piece on Bryan Fuller, it's that simple. The man makes good but incredibly niche TV, and it turned out that was what he was going to keep doing on American Gods rather than pump out some "the next Game of Thrones" crowdpleaser.

hangedman1984

So I've come across several conflicting articles in the last hour about how Neil Gaiman is going to be the new showleader, or maybe he isn't, also maybe Bryan Fuller and Michael Green might still be involved in some capacity, maybe.

Perhaps it's in the nature of television. Just waves in space.
I don’t have a link to the tweet but he said on Twitter he is absolutely not going to run two shows at once, but he’s going to be very close to the new showrunner like he did with Fuller.
