So why do they only keep Stringbean in for one inning at most when he actually does pretty well?

Yeah Boone defending the hold there is pretty funny considering it looked like he was halfway down the line as Heyward was getting ready to throw

Like come on would it really have been that terrible to have Edwards throw a second inning? The kiddy gloves they treat him with despite this being technically his third season up with the Cubs is inane. e. Oh goodie Strop with the bases loaded and no outs. I'm sure this will end spectacularly.

As if there was going to be any other outcome from putting Strop on the mound.

Kevlar v2.0 posted:It's more Uehara's fault No, it's really not. Uehara is 41 years old and doesn't have the gas to go multiple innings or games in a row. We loving know this already because prior to tonight his sole implosion in an otherwise spotless record with the Cubs was when Joe ran him out multiple days in a row. Also, see the aforementioned age. Uehara also got his very nice moment yesterday where he got to pitch a 1-2-3 in his old ball park. He should have been 100% unavailable tonight. Edwards could have thrown a second inning. Strop could have started the inning instead of inheriting a mess he was never going to be able to tightrope walk out of. Rondon probably could have taken it if you're going to trot guys out on consecutive days. But instead, Maddon marched Uehara back out because he's an absolutely loving useless sack of poo poo when it comes to anything resembling even remotely competent management of pitching. Maddon lost the game for the Cubs when he put Uehara on the mound, don't blame the pitcher because he was put in a spot everybody knows he wasn't likely to perform in.

Hot take, Craig Kimbrel might be better than Aroldis Chapman. That insane year he had with the Braves a few years back he was almost unhittable.
