After you have one $500 AR-15 style, your next one is going to be a $800 AR-15 style from a more prestigious company. Then your next gun is a $1200 gun that is a bigger caliber. Same with pistols. About 2 years in, every apartment got a notice that it turns out they'd been reading gas wrong and apparently that was being billed at random. So they took over all those payments and raised rent by 50 bucks. For me this wasn't great, as my heat payment wasn't much since the lady below me had her heat cranked.

Also an important note about horses is they can live a long time. You are looking at around 25+ years of a giant animal that can cause enormous vet bills to itself in minutes. It also ties you down, as unless you pay a lot of money to have it boarded, you have to have enough land for horse related activities.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-03/elon-musk-s-most-dumbfounding-moments-on-tesla-s-earnings-call

Elon Musk told investors not to buy Tesla Inc. shares if they can’t stomach volatility. They got the message.

The comments -- part of a bizarre, heated conference call after the close Wednesday -- sent the electric-car maker’s stock plunging. Tesla fell as much as 8.6 percent Thursday after the chief executive officer rejected analysts’ questions on another quarter in which the company burned more than $1 billion in cash.

Musk, 46, may have backed Tesla into a corner. While he repeated that the carmaker won’t need more capital this year -- and said he specifically doesn’t want to raise any -- even Tesla bulls harbor doubts about its cash position. The CEO demonstrated willingness to bite the hand that feeds by ridiculing representatives of Wall Street’s biggest banks, some of which have helped the company raise billions of dollars to fund his other-worldly ambitions.

Musk really needs to get someone else to run Tesla while he fucks off and plays with rockets.

I've seen just as many stories about bars and restaurants that did great and still failed as bars that did terrible and failed. It sometimes doesn't matter how awesome you are at running it.

My old roommate was a waitress who closed three different restaurants down. And since everyone raids the bar on that last night, she had a fantastic selection of booze. One was a corporate restaurant. She needed a dolly to haul all that out.

So there's always a bright side I guess.

I was at a family get together a few years ago, the guy hosting it at his house ran a popular bar in a resort town. Someone mention that it must be going well because he's obviously doing well. He says that the bar does ok, and for years he was only just breaking even. Then the state loosened gambling restrictions, and he put in a few multigame machines. After a few months of those going in, he cleared enough to hire more people, and was able to take vacations. If he cleared out more space for more machines, he could rake in even more, but he'd rather keep the space for tables. So the secret is gambling.

In BWM news, a coworker really wanted to buy a house, and only just talked out of the first one because it was in a flood plain and had some sketchy foundation business.
So he went for another one he could only just afford. I heard him saying that if he needs a lot of OT a month to have any savings. I'm sure this will go well.

Got a fun one from work. I have a coworker that works in what is essentially a 2nd tier data entry/processing job for the last 20ish years. She seems content with the job, and that is fine, some people find a comfy groove and ride it. Its outside of work that is the real amazing thing.

She is a NASCAR fan. Actually, she is a Dale Sr/Dale Jr fan and happens to like Nascar because of them. She makes important financial decisions based on who Jr's sponsors were. She adjusted her stock portfolio based on that. When another driver beat Jr on some race, she sold their stock and refused to ever use their products again. How the company is doing and if its a loss or gain does not factor in, at all.
I was having lunch one day, and a couple of her coworkers were talking about something stupid she did. She owns a small home and a few years ago, had an addition put onto the house, probably a bedroom or something. Last year, there was a leak into the house because which contractor hosed up. Now, a normal person would have them fix the work.

She went with call another contractor and had them tear the addition down. Once that was down, now there was exposed siding that wasn't as as weathered as other siding, so she the house re-sided. Yay, now the house is fixed, but oh no, the landscaping is hosed up because there is a huge slab in the yard. With winter coming that will wait until next year.

Next layer of the onion, it turns out she's 68. She should have retired years ago, and was going to, but due to the remodeling work, can't. She will probably have to work another couple of years to pay this off.

Now the real stupid part: She has a trust fund, and has been using this trust fund her entire life. Apparently she gets a set amount every month, but has spent all of it each month. If she retires, she won't make enough to go on Nascar trips and pay off the house remodel. So, she keeps working, because she can't stop doing either.
