The best part is how this enormous house takes up over 25% of its own lot and is claustrophobically crammed in between dozens of other enormous homes on similarly undersized lots.

ngl, if I had a spare room for it I wouldn't mind a home arcade / game room.

Agreed, I had to set up the works laptop in the bedroom when my wife got up so I wasn't in the middle of the kids being homeschooled and its not pleasant to start associating that space with work as well.

this dude is local and makes some awesome, gigantic abstract art but I do not have 4400 dollars

https://www.besonart.com/product/untitled-1184/

I emailed him and he's actually been quite responsive and friendly. Basically he said what my budget was and what I expected it would cost. I said several thousand dollars for an original of that size was not unreasonable, but it just wasn't in my budget, which is why I asked about prints. I then mentioned that if I wanted to fill space above a sofa, I could do a triptych with three small original pieces and it would be much more affordable.

How big is the tea table? While trying to decide if it fits in the room or not make sure to account for ~3ft of extra pace on all sides of the table you want to sit at.

For the stairs I'd also like to hear ideas. I have a similar setup (minus parents) with a long straight stairwell that's the only entrance.

It's about 3 by 7 foot in a kidney bean shape, around the size of a normal dining table for four but arranged like a service bar. It can seat six on one side and the ends and one behind the counter, as it were, so the dimensions are a bit wonky.

For the stairs and in general I like the idea of plants so I could see putting creepers and air plants on the stairwell with a fairly low wall profile. In the house I grew up in we had a couple of pieces and a pedestal in the corner of the stairwell, so perhaps a floating shelf would be nice.

It would be an extravagance to have something like those rotating e-mural screens that can switch up art but I could see that in the corner followed up by some extra local art that interests me. I don't like the idea of a mega art wall but a line of pieces up the exterior side wall that follows the eyeline would be nice, but I also have no real design sense there. I imagine it would feel pretty cluttered pretty fast if you put a lot of pieces along the stairwell.

You should look at second hand speakers and get some good ones instead of mediocre monitors.

Why are you constantly asking the forums for advice if you know everything? And then managing to take offence when people respond to your questions. Pretty weird IMO.

I never asked for advice on speakers in this thread, in the post you are quoting or otherwise. I asked for advice in the audio thread, but this is not the audio thread. All I said was "this is what I'm planning on doing." Then you responded with "you should get these speakers" which are not even desktop speakers, and you linked me to a product which I don't even think is sold in the country. In conclusion, thanks for posting.

That brown aesthetic is actually a product of colonial revivalism. It was sort of a suburban answer to the back-to-nature aesthetic of hippiedom, earthy and natural but distinctly western/American.

After talking with the person from Crutchfield they said they wouldn't recommend anything above 10" because that stuff is more for home theater setups, which is exactly the type of product you are linking too - you can see it's meant for home theaters, hence the >10" size and the frequency response going down to 25 Hz. Basically what I use speakers for is not going to benefit from this.

Also I'm certainly not an audio expert but one reason for such a low price might be that the power out put of that is very low (120 Watts). There's only one 12" subwoofer on the entire crutchfield site with <200W and that's a Polk with 150.

edit: btw knox those speakers you linked to are definitely for home theater setups

https://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=778

does that website that you linked me to say otherwise?

also the pair with the triangle on the bottom reminds me of something from Patrick Bateman's apartment

cool thanks, there's someone selling the YU4 for 275 in craigslist so I'll message him, see if he'll take 200 :p

may I ask which speaker stand you used specifically?

They’re the Monoprice speaker stands that cost around thirty bucks that are glass and black metal. The YU4s are also hefty being bookshelf speakers, so if you instead opt to keep them on your desk make sure your get appropriate stands weighted for them. I think I tried using Kanto’s stands and they bent under the YU5’s weight despite being the same dimensions as other speakers in the YU line.

I’d call 200 a solid deal. Kanto in general gets the job done if it fits your decor and suchlike. I’d only sell mine if I was doing a whole house upgrade or something, since they are versatile like that.

edit: I found the specific model, has different heights. The pedestals just kind of fade into the background and keep it at the same height the TV is for ideal listening while on a couch. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=39495

ASK ME ABOUT MY SHITTY, BOUGIE INTERIOR DECORATING ADVICE
I'm struggling to understand how anyone could have possibly thought those B&O speakers that are very clearly and obviously floorstanders could somehow have been used as desktop monitors.

For what it's worth, my sole experience with B&O is buying a pair of very expensive headphones because of the super comfy lamb's leather pads; watching the leather on those pads fall to pieces over 18 months despite the headphones never having left my desk; and not being able to replace the pads because not only does B&O use a proprietary attachment system for their pads; they use a slightly different one for every model so the pads are not cross compatible; and my model having been discontinued no longer has pads made for it.

In short - never again.
