Just n'thing the suggestion to leave that trim in place. People keep talking about damaging drywall, which I don't really think would happen. However, judging by the trim style/color and the radiators, I'm gonna guess that's *not* drywall, but actually all very old plaster, which will 100% beyond any shadow of a doubt crumble all to poo poo when you pull the trim. Source: My job for a long time heavily involved removing trim. I've removed so much trim. Just so much.

Just throw a queen sized bed in there and be done. My girlfriend works from home, so we set up a nice desk in our guest bedroom (roughly 11x15 room). She works, then naps with our dogs on the bed during breaks.

Very old house; they manage to get in. I don’t have an infestation; I just see one every now and then and I have an abundance of caution. Naphthalene (the active ingredient in mothballs) is quite toxic - mothballs are actually Banned in the EU and China. My grandparents made extensive use of them once upon a time but my dad and I got rid of them years ago and banned them from the house.
I had a job once where we had to clean up a hoarder situation, after the occupant had died of his habit of napthalene huffing. The house absolutely reeked of moth balls, which while unpleasant, did make it marginally better than the average hoarder job.

I'm no inglenook expert, but everything I see on Google, including the dictionary, suggests those would all be considered inglenooks. I mean, they may look different from the first inglenooks, in the same way that a modern kitchen wouldn't look much like one from the 1700s, but they all appear to be nooks near a fireplace.

Seriouspost: how exactly is this a real problem? I've been in kitchens that have had wood floors centuries old and it's not like I caught typhoid from some unclean crevices.
I was also confused by this. If your wood floor (not engineered hardwood, not prefinished) has crevices, it's time to refinish it. It's also been used in kitchens for hundreds of years without issue. If you have enough water on the floor to ruin your hardwood, you've got enough water to be worried about your cabinets, your subfloor, the floor below, etc. Properly finished hardwood will stand up just fine to occasional spills, properly cleaned up.

I'm also struggling to come up with a floor covering that has less crevices than hardwood. Not laminate, not tile, not vinyl plank, not engineered... So sheet vinyl it is.
