i think im getting more lols from the people who cant see how, despite this being legal, it is a bad and not good thing. there are many things trump could do that would be completely legal, and also very bad for national security and relationships with our allies

this is one of them. who is going to keep sharing sensitive information with the US after it is known that big baby trump cant keep his mouth shut? yes we share classified things with our allies all the time, but somehow i think it usually doesnt happen as a spontaneous spur of the moment friendship building activity. there are consequences to sharing information, especially if the source is at risk and does not want it to be shared

You don't even know what he said, the media would tell you Trump told them highly classified info when he might have just said "some bad hombre tried to get on a plane with a laptop bomb, you wanna coke?"

Or "we have so many nukes" becomes "TRUMP GIVES RUSSIA LAUNCH CODES" because the media are all hysterical idiots

I don't understand what you're trying to say. We can't believe an article put out by the WaPo and confirmed by Reuters, NYT, etc saying he shared classified info with Russian diplomats because you can't trust the media. Donald Trump takes to twitter talking about how he has every right to share classified info with the Russians and he wanted to do that, but you can't trust what Trump says to mean anything.

These do not appear to be reasonable statements and are become less coherent as more information comes out.

Why is it so hard to admit that the most reasonable thing that happened is that a man with a history of impulsively saying things impulsively said something that jeopardized one of our sources? Will you have to rethink your whole life or something?

yeah, that is totally fair. we dont know exactly what was said, but given everything we know about trump it fits his character perfectly and would not be surprising at all. i mean something like this was practically inevitable, and whether what he said was harmless or as bad as the media portrays it really doesnt matter at this point. trump going off script and sharing intel on a whim without consulting and considering the potential consequences is pretty bad for the reasons i said before.

My personal feeling is that sharing info about the possible targeting of civilian airliners might be more important than shielding an intelligence source but ultimately that's a choice for the president to make and he made it. People are going to fall all over any excuse to turn anything Trump does into some sort of emergency along with their biased news sources that have been proven wrong multiple times. We've been in a relationship with Russia where we share info with them on ISIS since before Trump was president. Everyone who was in the room at the time seems to think what occurred was fine and it's only once you get into the orbiting leakers and word of mouth where everything turns into a new Watergate at every opportunity. Trump is obviously a bumbling idiot but the people seeking to undermine him can only come away empty-handed so many times before the public turns against them as well.

im totally open to changing my opinion if you were to present a compelling argument. do you disagree that, whatever the content of his leak, future sources of information and allies will look at this and worry that their classified information might be shared on a whim next? if trump did not consult anyone and went off script, he evaluated consequences on his own or didnt even give them a thought. both are very worrisome for any future sources

He is the guy specifically elected to make that call. He told Russians about possible targeting of civilian airliners by a terrorist organization. There's a disconnect between the actual and the abstract here. His specific action is pretty understandable and not really that controversial unless you want to draw a bunch of slippery slope conclusions from it. I understand that people feel he is not qualified to make that call on his own, but we are past that point now. The election is over. He's the dude, like it or not, and every manufactured scandal like this reeks of a desperate half of the electorate crying for a "do-over" of the whole thing. Even if Trump gets impeached you get Pence, who would arguably have an easier time enacting legislation progressives hate. The strategy here by the "resistance" is poorly thought out with no end game other than a constant, self-serving tantrum.
