This seems like the appropriate place to talk about how I'm seeing Tool on Thursday because someone I sort of know had an extra ticket and I was able to work him down from $150 to $100. Should be a good time. I only go to big arena type shows a couple of times a year at most.

New song isn't very good though, the fast parts are fun but the rest drags on.

Came here to talk about new Foo song. I don't think they've put out a completely good album since Color/Shape, but I still enjoy most of their singles. Run does feel like they could have done more with it than the paint-by-numbers quietpartLOUDPARTquietpart structure we got, but for radio candy I'm still glad to hear new stuff from them. The last song I really liked was Rope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbpqZT_56Ns

Yeah Wasting Light is a solid album, I actually liked the previous one more than most did, but it's hard to argue they didn't return to form in a pretty big way there. The song that's held up best for me is "Dear Rosemary" -- the momentum from the bridge all the way through to the end is classic stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwz9RHfqDUQ Oh also, does Queens Of The Stone Age go in this thread? I know there's a "Stoner Rock" thread but I don't think anyone including the band have considered them in that genre for a long time now. Anyway, apparently they're up to something. Just cryptic ARG-type stuff at the moment, but it's something: http://www.qotsa.com/

This is definitely QotSA friendly.

Pretty solid, though Maynard doesn't do the Grudge scream anymore (his vocals were also too low in the mix). They played a good mix of songs from every era (strangely two songs from Opiate and none from Undertow). Danny is still mesmerizing. My minor beef is that they have an intermission but the second set is just a drum solo and three songs.

Also, gently caress all of you for dissing my Foo Fighters. t (Yeah, the last album is kindof just there, not bad, not great. The HBO documentary they did was far more interesting. Wasting Light was easily the best album since Colour And The Shape, which is my all time favorite album.)

Heavy Metal posted:The beauty of art, yes? All these different interpretations. E6 like stealth became one of my favorite bands. They've smoothed out the rough edges and gotten more synth-y as they've gone on, and fewer of their songs on the last couple of albums have jumped out at me as 'wow this is one of my favorite E6 songs now.' But I also find myself liking just about every song as well. That sounds like damning with faint praise but I give a lot of credit to bands that can consistently release decent material for decades rather than put out one or two great albums then either flame out or start recording crap. I couldn't tell you what my favorite song is off Bitch, Don't Let Me Die! was, the entire album is just nebulously 'pretty good'. Legit looking forward to the split cover/live album in September, then the new studio LP on 10/13 So this entire post isn't just jerking off over E6, what about some stealth hard rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBDluMsYN4c Starts off pretty chill, then guitar solo is fire (E6 also has a cover of this ogod help me). Speaking of guitar solos, my number one all time favorite guitar solo ever is in The River by Gorefest. Gorefest started out as gutteral death metal, then in the late 90s morphed into more chunky hard rock with rough-but-understandable vocals. This song is just OK, but the solo, goddamn dude. INSTRUCTIONS: Listen to the intro, 0:00-0:23, then skip up to 2:50 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq80_RomVSo edit: drat, now that I'm listening to them again their last few albums were pretty drat Hard Rock in their own right... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipthRUYvYtM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM1_NEWRWcg Takes No Damage fucked around with this message at 00:39 on Aug 4, 2017 |

Always cool to get new stuff from Maynard and notable/influential cats like that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgH1DfWV2Ac (start a minute in) New Andrew WK song sounds very triumphant, classic rock in the Queen/Steinman-Meat Loaf kind of area, which is a very nice area.

So I guess Black Country Communion are getting back together: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/black-country-communion-2017-album-tour/ I had heard that they originally broke up because Glenn Hughes kept bothering Bonamassa to keep making records and go on tour all the time and he wanted to do his other projects. Anyways, I did like their music so this could be interesting. edit: the new song is kind of a led zeppelin-cliche copy-paste, though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNFmtxlLU4w

I picked up "We're An American Band" by Grand Funk and I thought it was all going to be party-time buttrock like the title track. I was pleasantly surprised to find that a lot of it had santana-esque extended jamming. Those guys were pretty good players!

Yeah, I see that they also have an album that was produced by Frank Zappa, and he even plays guitar on one of the songs. It's not on itunes though, so I might have to get it on ebay or something. None of Budgie's stuff is on itunes either.

This seems to be the most fitting thread for rock, so has anyone seen the new resurrected Rainbow live? There's a show coming up here in April and being a huge fan (mostly of Dio era stuff obviously) I'm really itching to go, even though it's just Ritchie left at this point.

Would this be the thread to ask if anyone will be seeing the Smashing Pumpkins' 30th anniversary tour? They're coming to Denver and I never saw them while I was a huge fan. Most of the original lineup, playing the classic albums.

gently caress yes. No shows announced yet in Australia. I really want to see them live, especially now they're going three guitars and Jimmy. Pity about the D'arcy drama but so loving pumped. Apparently they're working on a new album. As long as it's more Oceania than Monuments I'll be happy. I actually liked Zeitgeist but Oceania was on point and just a good Pumpkins album (and therefore amazing in general). Blah blah I talk about them too much.
