Being able to sit at a desk pretending to look at a glowing box while clicking a little plastic oval rather than having to hunt/gather or engage in subsistence farming. Also currency is nice because I'm bad at negotiating and barter would get old pretty fast.

The German Shepherd, for instance, created to be the most versatile working dog on the planet, can be everything from a soldier to a child's companion. It is what we as a species have been able to accomplish with the domestic dog that fascinates me - our relationship with dogs predates civilization, but it also helped evolve it, and continues to do so.
