As long as that unit's base power is equal to or less than the amount you weaken by. Even if you don't kill it, as long as its base power was reduced to zero or less it will not go to the graveyard after it is finally destroyed, which means no deathwish effect will occur.

This season is the last two month'er, so at the end of December. From next year the pro ladder will still be two months, but everything other than that will be one.

I've not had issues getting games myself (haven't played the last couple of weeks though), and streamers I watch haven't had issues either in the last couple of days. It might be you starting fresh at the bottom of the ranking after so long, especially mid way through a season? Not exactly sure how that's all set up. Or maybe everyone has suddenly just stopped playing! It's a good game though so hopefully not.
