It's been ages since I played it, this is relevant to Mechwarrior 4, right? I liked Mechcommander too so I'd be pretty interested in this! I'm going to have a lance of lovely urbanmechs.

Also I had a battletech mech book when I was a kid and had no clue what it was or that it was a game, and didn't figure it out until after finding it again a few years ago and realizing that some of the same mechs in Mechcommander and Mechwarrior were in it and putting two and two together. :v:

I never played Battletech but I did have a technical readout for it I didn't realize was even a rule book, it just looked sweet as hell. Years later I played Mechwarrior 4 and Mechcommander 2 and put two and two together.

But honestly what can you expect from a game where you are piloting slow, plodding mechs? Gundam this ain't, and Battletech's design philosophy when it comes to its stompy robits is that they move with plodding deliberation.

Mechwarrior was always way cooler than Gundam.

Not nearly as bad as DOOM was though. Off my ssd the load time was four minutes somehow.

Like, my Blackjack had it's right arm blown off. The laser and autocannon are red now. Does that mean I can't equip them when I drag them on to re-equip them to the refitted arm? Statistically they seem identical to the not-hosed-up weapons on the other arm.

Wow the Blackjack is trash. Overheats instantly, can't move, arms constantly blow off. What an heirloom! :allears:

Also on this moon mission I thought I understood initiative but I clearly don't. The shadowhawk escort DFA's my BJ, then two rounds in the same turn later punches me to KO my Blackjack. I thought you could only go once a turn? How do I double up? It went round two then round 4.

e: I...guess my Incapacitated pilot can just stand up and keep going? Does "Incapacitated" not mean anything?

Okay so the Blackjack is a 45 tonne medium so its actually just barely above a light mech, also on that moon mission you have penalties to heat sinks so anything that has some heat issues will be crippled by it on that map type.

So initiative can allow you to reserve mechs between different phase and move mechs around in different phases. Did the shadowhawk get hit by a precision strike or get knocked over or get hit by a pilot with the 2nd Guts skill? Did any of your mechs get knocked down?

You definitely cant go twice in the one turn but you can say, go in round 4, then when the next turn starts, trigger off in round 2. What happened between the enemy shadowhawk's two turns?

I get there are penalties but it's never approached overheating. The hawk didn't reserve it's turn, it attacked then attacked again. In round 2, the hawk DFA'd my BJ. In round 4, my locust moved and attacked. In round 4, the hawk melee'd and attacked. This ended the turn. The next turn, my Incapacitated Pilot stood up and punched it back.

Yeah so the BJ really needs to be kept back and when you get a chance yank one of the Medium lasers off of it and pump up its armour. By default it starts very low. Alternatively, replace the AC/2s with 1 AC/5 and beef up armour, maybe strip a Medium Laser too if you need it. You want a blackjack at the back and the shadowhawk way in the front.

I'll try that later if I see another. Though I think the game actually just gave me it back?

Things I learned in this .5 skull baby difficulty mission:

1. Sensor lock scouts are great until
2. enemy sensor lock scouts show up with
3. PPCs and who
4. Don't give a poo poo how much evasion and cover you have, because it is a
5. One shot kill on your little piece of poo poo and
6. You won't break the PPC before it one shot kills you

RIP Dekker, you were useful until the game showed me you were not and it was just luck you did anything of value. Now I have to wait literally 40 days to have enough mechs to play the game again. Good thing I took the money option.

Game owns.

Well the game crashed and deleted my save so I tried the other mission I have, 2 stars.

Hunchback, Shadow Hawk, Vindicator.

Glitch died to ten billion lasers and ppcs because twelve rounds of shooting the same mech in a row did loving zero damage. Then instead of meleeing Behemoth walked up to a mech and did nothing.

I'm reloading because gently caress that a crash and a deleted save is enough for a day but what the hell am I supposed to do? .5 skull missions have sniper mechs with ppcs I can't beat without one kill because it takes at least two rounds to finish them, and the others have mechs that are more armored and I can't even scratch or unsteady in six rounds. I don't get it. Did I just do plot missions too quick and now I don't have the gear to handle things?
