I'll say this. I watched Cohhcarnage's stream, and it doesn't look as great as I thought it would.

It looks one hundred times BETTER. I am firmly on the hype train and I want someone to build a time machine and set it for April 24th right now.

Some interesting things from another one of the devs over on RPG.net's Btech forum.

File under in success all things are possible, but,,

(regarding allowing you to play with 12 mechs)

It has to do with the overall burden of complexity and time. that said, command of a company (three lances) on the battlefield is something i consider a very high priority for future content. That doesn't mean we'll do it, but it means I want to spend some time solving it and seeing if we can make it fun.

I have a variety of ideas for how to make it work. It is not going to be 'just like this game, only you control 12 'Mechs' because that would be Not Fun. I've been talking through the problem with the design team, though, and we have some good concepts to prototype after we launch the game.

HG Licenses anime rights to three anime series, creates "Robotech" from the three series.

FASA Creates Battletech, licenses the images of certain mechs from the Anime series from someone in Japan. They get a licensed cartoon, which HG says infringes on their rights

HG throws a poo poo fit, despite questionable legal rights, sues FASA. This basically threatens to drag the company down just from legal expenses,FASA says "We'll sign something just to make you go away."

FASA and its later owners, WizKids/Catalyst redraw the mechs, or just use the outline. The mechs in question are referred to as the Unseen.

MechWarrior Online starts up, and they redraw the mechs, they're referred to as the "Reseen".

HG: sees that people are making money off Battletech again, and wants to rerun their strategy, they say "That's all infringing on our rights", hoping to get a payment to go away. (Mostly because all their attempts to monetize it has failed miserably).

Catalyst/MWO/HBS say "Uh, we redrew them so they don't really look like yours anymore.. and besides, your legal rights are.. questionable"

HG: WE OWN ALL GIANT ROBITS! PAY US NOW! WE SUES YOU.

HBS has gotten out of the suit, as HG has dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice (meaning they can't bring the claims again). They're still trying to sue Catalyst/MWO..

So, until the lawsuits grind to an end, the Unseen/Reseen Mechs are not in Battletech.

Quick story told in 5 statements with semi-emoticons

1: "Hah! This Assassinate mission is going to be easy. They've split their mech forces, and it's only 2 Skull!" Focus Fire with my heavy mediums, easy peasy, right?
2: : "Well the good news is that we found the covert agent. He's in a Thunderbolt though. This was not in the plan. :/
3: "Wait, the spy is running, and if he gets away we lose the mission? What happened to stand up and fight." 0_o
4: "Wait, what the heck. ANOTHER THUNDERBOLT? A JAGERMECH? THIS WAS NOT IN THE PLAN AT ALL! WHO GAVE US THIS INTELLIGENCE!" 0_0
5: So the two who were chasing after the spy got back cored, another mech is harmless and armless, and my commander had to punch out.. Thank god Glitch staggered to the evac zone after the spy went down" X_X

Bonus: Come back after work to find the game's CTD, and there's no save during the mission, so I have to do it all again !_!

Went much better on the second go round, as I went all out against the spy, and the enemies heavies were too slow to catch us before he went down, and then we had the numbers game

Tactics Matter folks.

Also, heads up to those who were going to do Mech Shooty Tournaments tonight.

BATTLETECH Community,

Please be aware that our servers will be down for an update starting sometime between 4:00pm and 8:00pm Pacific time. We will update this post 15 minutes before the actual time of the server interruption. Total downtime is anticipated to be less than an hour. During this time, multiplayer games will not function, you will not be able to log in to your PDX account (or create a new one), reward codes will not be redeemable, and you will not be able to register a call sign.

Thank you for your patience. More info tomorrow as we get closer to the update.

For those of you who hate that late game missions are all assault vs Assault, there's a mod out that removes the "step up mission difficulty after a story mission" modifer, in place is a location based one:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BattleTechMods/comments/8fpxox/removed_forced_difficulty_boosts_planet/

Sadly, not retro active save usable (it would disable further story upgrades to the difficulty, but not past ones)

If you think SRM Carriers are bullshit (they are), and LRM Carriers are double bullshit (they are)..

How about a Heavy LRM Carrier?

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Heavy_LRM_Carrier

(Won't see it in a couple decades in game, but I think it's all 3025 tech. 4x LRM20).

Seriously up to "Macross Missile Massacre" level.

"I've been sensor locked"

That's your queue to go use the facilities because the next 90 seconds it's going to be raining missiles.

Actually, someone brought up the Clans and their munchkin mechs. They were the ones who started the "Spam one weapon type"

It turns out that you can tell by the tags what weapons a planet can offer from their shop:

So this might help your quest for that utterly rare AC/20 +++ to know that you'll only find it on worlds with Research or Former Star League Preference, or a Free Worlds League planet with Manufacturing, Rich and Research.

What I was thinking about for when they go to company scale is that the company has a couple drop ships, but there's multiple missions going on at the same time. Do you really want to put your Highlander in that "Destroy the radar dome" mission when there's also a mission going on to take over the factory guarded by heavy/assaults.

SirFozzie

You need a maximum of seven mechs and seven mechwarriors.

Basically, any mechwarrior with injuries from the first mission will need to be replaced. Any mechs that have taken internal damage will ahve that damage carry over. You do get a free pilot (You Know Who in her You Know What), but if you took severe losses in the previous mission, you'll need three supporters, but it is actually somewhat easier because it's Lance v Lance.

In most cases, when a Mech goes down. (either via core, 2xLegs dead or pilot injury), the pilot is incapacitated.
If he gets headshot (ie, the head is taken out), he takes lethal damage.

Now, there's a chance depending on your guts rating:

If a friendly pilot is incapacitated the chances of death are as follows: 90% - (Guts * 5%) or if the cockpit is destroyed 140% - (Guts * 5%)

I love how the folks at the Codex are still like "Mediocre game. Piece of trash, worthless", and then list their reasons why, it sounds like "We know publicly hating on pronouns such as They makes us look bad, so we're going to pretend like it's all these other things we don't like, and the game's not a success, because.. um.. because we said so"

Gamers create worlds of their own sometimes.

Guys! Harmony Gold shadow over Battletech is OVER, apparently for good as they've set up an agreement And not only that, they managed to get InMedia Res (Catalyst) off the hook at the same time. (I know some CGL haters are sad about that)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hIAGuxzEy3ZE4_mjyj-jiw4TMuwoIn3g/view

(all that's left is for the judge to sign the order)

Pirahna's Russ Bullock released a statement:

https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/266758-harmony-gold-lawsuit/

As many of you know for more than a year Piranha has been a defendant in a lawsuit filed by Harmony Gold. Very recently that lawsuit has been resolved.. The details on the resolution of the lawsuit are confidential and I am limited to this agreed upon language between HG and PGI.

Harmony Gold and Piranha Games are delighted to announce that they have ended their dispute. Piranha Games will continue to use the “classic” BattleTech designs and Harmony Gold and Piranha Games look forward to continuing to serve their respective fans and customers.

Many of you will have follow up questions but I must abstain from getting into a conversation on the matter.

At Piranha Games we thank you for your support during the process.

It's very likely PGI paid Harmony Gold some "oh, just gently caress off" money because settling was probably cheaper than litigation holding up the release of Mechwarrior 5. But we don't know because the court files are closed.

You know, with the latest boxsets, there is something I wish Battletech could do, working on the addons that Roguetech have done. (Note, I love the RogueTech weapons and all the mechs, but it kinda kills "Hey, you're a hardscrabble merc in the 3025 Periphery" when the first mission has you fighting a 3145 mech with an EMP gun and a flight wing. Plus the initiative changes and nerfing of hit chances that makes melee even more OP)

And that would be this:

A) Like Paradox does with their Grand Campaigns, give us a bunch of different starting points.

For example:
3025 Fourth Succession War
3039 War of '39, Comstar's hidden Machinations
3050 Kerensky's Army
3058 The War Against the Smoke Jaguar
3062 The FedCom Civil War
3067 The Word Of Blake Strikes
3085 Dawn of The Republic
3145 Fall of the Republic?

As time advances, events happen that slowly improve weapons (for example, the Helm Core recovery). So + and ++ and +++ tech becomes more available. Then new weaponry and equipment (like Double Heat Sinks, so on and so forth). Want the good stuff? Then you might have to ally with a power, and trade some of your autonomy. For example, a one year garrison contract that midway through offers a flashpoint (someone invades!) that will be five operations within a two week period, so your techs are going to be strained to the maximum trying to juggle mechs and pilots.

B) MOAR MECHS

I understand right now the limit of bringing four mechs on a mission. How about adding multiple ongoing missions like "This lance is going to garrison a base, while this lance is going to strike the pirate base". If it involves combat, give the player the option of controlling the battle, or letting the AI simulate the battle for you. Also, that adds a bit of challenge into the logistics of a contract, for example "Oh jeez, Sho and Dekker got severely wounded in that base defense. So now we either need to reduce our force for the upcoming retaliation strike, or risk our base and crew without those two if the enemy tries to strike again." For example, upgrade the Argo to a Union Dropship, which allows them to tote around a company.

C) Mechwarrior Hiring expansion and morale

Keep the current Free Agent system, and called it "Dispossessed": Mechwarriors who are willing to fight in anything. Add another type of mechwarrior, who owns their own mech and solely uses it in battle. Sure, you can upgrade it, but it's THEIR Mech and if they leave the unit, they can take the upgrades with them. For Mercs, Instead of the at-will system, which is gameable, transform to a contract like situation: Where the person is signed up for one battle, 3 months, or even multiple years. As a unit gets more experience together, they get morale effects. However, that greenie you picked up four years ago is now a grizzled vet with 15 successful missions under his belt.. when his contract expires is he going to set off on his own, or nearly as bad, hold you up for a Kings Ransom to resign? (maybe offering to sell a Mech to the mechwarrior as a contract term, or as a gift to improve morale). Lost missions, boredom, and lack of opportunity can cause mechwarriors to lose morale, start trouble, be less willing to reup their contact, or even go Rogue. (More on that below) And of course, as mechwarriors age, they may decide to get out of the war business altogether.

D) Expand the Pirate/Rogue path

Now that mechwarrior loyalty and morale is a thing, turn it into another thing to juggle. You'll almost never find elite pirate mechwarriors, but they're cheap, and in most cases, willing to put up with poo poo just to keep the rest of the scum of the universe from preying on THEM. But there's also a downside for pirate groups. They have a LOT more Morale swinginess. Had a rough year with few juicy targets? Watch out, your second in command might decide that he can do a more profitable job and launch an attempt to take over the group. Then not only do you have to put down the insurrection, but you have to (gasp) shoot up your own equipment! Of course, if you shoot a few of the troublemakers beforehand, pour encourager les autres, as Voltaire would say, it might help.. or it might launch the very insurrection that you're trying to stop. It's a boom or bust situation, and pirates who make it big must either go legit and get access to techs and technology that normally doesn't filter out to the periphery for decades after its release, or risk busting from squabbling, or from the nearby Houses whistling up a heavy unit to squash you like a grape. Trying to create a long running pirate campaign that would be like "Lady Death" Paula Trevaine and the Tortuga Dominion would be like the 0/0/0/0 starting point in Paradox GC, nothing is given to you, you have to EARN it.\

Edit: TL;DR If they can optimize the system to avoid the current issues, give us MOAR of EVERYTHING.
