Group Ships - Massive Updates Done

---

Months of quiet and hard work, and in a single day all of it could be lost. The supposed right hand man of the Emperor, Darth Vader, was nearby and looking for them. A pitched battle with two significantly larger ships, heavily armed and stationed with TIE Fighters. It would be everything they could do to get the crew of the newly christened Sunset out alive.

See your face upon the clean water. How dirty! Come! Wash your face!
Only a few days earlier, the halls of Temple Base had been filled with the sounds of music and raucous laughter. Now there were klaxons going off and people running everywhere. It was chaos, but it was as organized as it could have been given the situation. The Empire was on its way. Darth Vader was on his way. And no matter how strong Temple Base was, there was no holding off a concentrated attack. Especially not with Vader involved.

Zep Rowsdower detonated the Grey Jedi temple as he left, ensuring the information did not fall into the Emperor's hands. Now all the information was leaving on the Sunrise Kestral in the form of Specialist Seze'lith'noaro and the three data analysis droids as well as the holocron Alis was holding.

Hopping into the cockpit of his newly built Truly Heavy Attack Fighter starship, the would-be Jedi had just enough time to wave to the Sunrise as it took off. He didn't have time to worry about that bad feeling he had deep in his gut, though. He knew that there were several Imperial capital ships out there. And, as the Force had shown him, conflict was inevitable.

Everything until now showed Alis how powerless she was. As she dealt the killing blows to Keeth, using his rage and anger to fuel her own focus, she knew that the power she sought was now within her grasp.

Alis knows that the survival of the Alliance depends upon its ability to hide from the Empire and avoid complete destruction at the hands of its overwhelming military superiority. To this end, she wants to hunt down and eliminate enemy agents and threats, feed false information to Imperial intelligence networks, and cover the movements of all Alliance assets from observation and reporting.

Lost in the bowels of this unfathomably large dreadnought, and now some sith is chasing them as well. This is truly a plan gone wrong... but at least the majority of Temple Base and Temple Fleet has escaped...

See your face upon the clean water. How dirty! Come! Wash your face!
Separated from his friends, Zep Rowsdower manages to sneak aboard the Executor. Using a combination of stealth, mind tricks, and aggressive negotiations he carves a path right for the dark eye of the maelstrom. He touched the mind of the dark side Force user that was helming the ship and found incredible rage welling up inside him. And... it was familiar. Something about this dark sider was familiar, and it filled him with dread. Whatever happened, he'd have to make his way to the rest of the crew before they ran into him.

See your face upon the clean water. How dirty! Come! Wash your face!
In the wake of the escape from the Executor, a small holo-recording could be found in Zep Rowsdower's room. Upon activating it, the image of the pilot would appear. "H'llo," He said, slowly, looking a bit sheepish. "Sorry to do this in such a... uh, unimpressive way. I don't think there's any other way." The hologram sits, leaning forward and interlocking his fingers. While he looks more contemplative, his speech reminds whoever is watching that it's the same old Zep. Not much like the man who had quite literally single-handedly fought Darth Vader to ensure the survival of the rest of the Sunrise crew.

"I've known for a while this was coming. It's something that couldn't be avoided. If I didn't do what I'm about to do... err, what I did... there's a chance one or more of you would have died, but even more there's a chance that Alis could have been captured by the Empire. And if that happened..." He shakes his head, as if clearing away an unpleasant memory.

"Anyway, you don't want to hear me yap. I just wanted to thank you all for helping pull me out of the darkness that I was in. Truth be told, I died when I was 12- I just had a stay of execution. I'm glad in the final years of my life that I was surrounded by friends and allies. But even now, knowing that I'll soon die, I'm not sad. I'm one with the Force and that means I'll be helping you at every turn. You're all so important to the Rebellion... trading my life for yours was the simplest choice I've ever had to make."

The hologram stands up and looks around. "Oh yeah, here are some things for you to remember me by. I've been busy in these past few months. I hope you appreciate it. Go ahead and take the sheets off these canvasses." If anyone pulls off the sheets draped over the paintings, Zep's final parting gifts can be seen. Six large, 4'x6' paintings of incredible quality. This is what he'd been doing while meditating for the last half year or so.

For Alis- a portrait of her, helmet off, standing over Gel Marcolf's body, sparing the man in an act of compassion. Despite this, half of Alis is shrouded in darkness.

For Argin- a protrait of him helping the sick and needy in the middle of the dangerous undercity. Somehow the painting really brings out the kindness in the hutt's features.

For Dem- a portrait of Dem and her family together, celebrating Life Day in a hall with alliance banners flying proudly.

For Gank- a portrait of Gank, standing alone on a snowy planet, opening fire with a heavy repeating blaster on a trio of AT-AT walkers as they approach him and what appears to be a rebel base behind him.

For Gunnis- a portrait of Gunnis shouting orders and leading what appears to be an exact recreation of the exodus from Temple Base.

For Hrakk- A portrait of Hrakk, surrounded by his family and helping one of his younger brothers repair a blaster pistol.

After a moment's pause, Zep continues. "I guess I should point out that Lith's gone. She took Master Warde's holocron at my request. Please don't follow her. I've tasked her with keeping it safe. I'm worried the Rebellion might use it to try and weaponize the Jedi again and I honestly don't want to tempt them. It's safe with her. She knows how to vanish. Once more students find my holocrons I believe they'll seek her out. I know she'll make a better teacher than I did, just so long as she gets some willing students."

"Oh and speaking of- Alis, I left you a holocron. It's over by my Bowcasterflex. It doesn't teach you anything new, but if you need Jedi wisdom, or help meditating, it's there for you. I'm sorry I failed you. And I'm sorry for taking the coward's way out. I just don't think I could bring myself to kill y..." He cuts off with a sad chuckle.

The hologram pauses and says "Well that's it. I'll be seeing you all again eventually. Keep the Rebellion going. And the Force will be with you. Always."

Zep's hologram leans forward and pushes something, causing his image to dissolve.

You know, you kids really ought to stop getting involved with this stuff.
It ended much like it began, with Alis staring out of a ship's porthole at the stars. The scenery was still and peaceful, interrupted only by the humming of the Sunset's systems. But inside, Alis raged.

When the Sunrise cell escaped on board, she immediately stormed off into her room, past bewildered friends and crew, locked the door, and threw her helmet off. It was hard to see through the visor with tears in the way. For three days she replayed the events onboard the Executor in her mind, and in her cyberbrain. Seeing through several eyes, her own and those of her drones. Looking for how the Sunrise cell could have prevented things from ending the way they did.

She finally emerged exhausted and hungry, and without answers. On her way to the mess, a crewmember let her know that something was waiting for her in Zep's old room. When she saw the painting, it became too much to bear. But even that was nothing compared to her shock at hearing Zep's last recorded words.

The crew was still trying to repair the damage to the room's walls.

Again in her room, again with her door locked, she looked out at the galaxy as the fleet was preparing its last hyperspace jumps to the Alliance base on Hoth. And in her hand was a small, dark pyramid. She recalled the last words it spoke to her, after confiding in it. It was the closest thing to a teacher she had, now.

"Ah, the treachery of the Jedi. You were right to scorn their ways. They promise peace but deal only in war and death." The gatekeeper's voice was elderly, graceful. Her eyes were hidden under a cowl. "But he died trying to protect you, didn't he? Let that offer you some comfort at least."

"But now, cease your useless mourning." The gatekeeper's voice was cold and stern. "It will not bring him back nor undo your own mistakes. Your time now is better spent learning my teachings, rather than mewling feebly at a fate you could not prevent. You are powerful, young Varuna." The gatekeeper started to smile. "Let your fear turn to anger. Let your anger turn to hatred. Use your hatred to make your enemies suffer. I will show you how."

Alis blinked at the memory. She remembered her past self gazing out of a window like this, after the events on board the Jewel of Coruscant. How crushing the fear was. How weak she felt. How doubts plagued her thinking. But now, her mind was focused. Razor-sharp. And through gritted teeth she swore a promise aloud to avenge every last soul the Empire took since its founding.

No matter the cost.

---------------------------------

Epilogue. The cold of Hoth was the kind of cold that hurts all the bones in your body. The cold that lingers on your coat after you shed it, the kind that you can smell. Alis' temporary quarters were lined with some salvaged scrap and an occasional length of bare ice.

It was at the few times of respite that she would open up the small holocron she found on Moraband. But something in her said, "not today."

There were in fact two other holocrons she had. The one from the Grey Order on Thanium, and the one Zep... Tycho Peart left behind.

She fumbled them out of her backpack. Small and ornately carved. Priceless. And one of them was square, styled classically in the holorecording devices of the extinct Jedi Order.

She was tempted to crush it once. To destroy the imprinted personality and memories of the man who alluded to having to kill her. In addition to his persistent weirdness. But in the end she believed it too valuable to lose.

And if it was anything like the other two holocrons she had, maybe it would offer a wealth of knowledge that can be used against the Empire.

And provide some closure between her and someone that could have been a dear friend.
