Its also good to remember that since PDCs don't need stuff like engines they shoot at stronger levels than their tonnage would suggest for a ship.

It's also good to remember that PDCs generally use planetary stockpiles as their magazine. If there's no house-rules going on, that means their combat endurance is only limited by how many missiles are actually physically on the same planet as them... and you saw how fast we turned around and had nanoforges crap out a stack of mines.

Also, because i feel like we aren't being paranoid enough about static defences, do remember that we aren't seeing anything below 2500 tons. At these tech levels, you absolutely can stick a dozen ASM box launchers and a fire control in a 1000-ton armored shell, whether that's a PDC or orbital defence satellite.

Good point. I expect for the actual battle we'll use a screen of our fighters, frigates and corvettes. Leading with our small stuff will protect against the expected fighters and FACs, and hopefully spot any small defense installations or mines. Behind that, mass up the main fleet for mutual point defense. A mini-PDC would be hard to spot, but it also won't throw a big salvo so we can hopefully handle it.

Re: magazine size, the way we're doing it is that the PDC can only use what's in its magazine to load its tubes. It can replenish its magazine from the colony stores, yes, but it's not instant - our PDC took, what, 12ish hours to restock? Point is, once they're empty they're empty unless we run away and give them time to reload. They might be able to get a trickle of missiles in from the colony stores and maintain a much lower rate of fire, though, so just because their magazine is dry doesn't mean they're harmless - just severely handicapped.

This is one way to find scum...

Seeing as I have been designated Warcrimes in Chief I would like to propose an ancillary operation to go alongside whichever of Sherman or Uranus is eventually chosen.

Our special ops have done an admirable job of attacking shipping when ordered, and I believe this can be expanded to more effective guerrilla tactics. I would suggest an attempted capture of a civilian tanker or harvesting vessel en route to one of the ICs sorium refineries, or potentially one of their transport hubs. Currently the most energy dense of known substances, the sorium fuel the ship carries would allow the team to easily rig it with explosives. Still transmitting it's civilian transponder codes it would dock with the refinery, or other soft target of high importance that would prove incredibly costly to repair and replace. I am no expert in the sorium supply chain, but knowing the profit-centric nature of the IC, such a place must exist.

This operation is low risk and potentially very high reward. The primary downsides are the need for at least one Martian patriot to give their life in the endeavor, the potential for civilian casualties and the potential backlash at hitting the sorium supply chain directly- though this is exactly what we've been ordered to do.

It may be difficult for our forces to board and capture an appropriate transport without it's alerting IC forces, but I have confidence our brave marines can pull this off. If there is any trepidation over the sacrificing of a life to ensure success rather than attempting a remote detonation with a higher risk of failure I will be the first to volunteer personally.

Gentlemen, we cannot allow the IC to attack our homeland and get away with it. The hope for a green Mars has been directly assaulted, the ambitions of our entire people damaged and degraded. I for one will not let this stand. Let us hit them exactly as they have hit us: their very ideals.

A corporation that becomes paranoid of it's own assets, that must pursue ever greater internal security and that sees it's very means of production reduced to glowing cinders can never remain profitable.

I thus put forward to you Operation Vengeance.

Fake Edit: I haven't been able to keep up and see that 'attack both in turn' might be a viable plan, and this might not jive with plans that include use of the marines. Still, I felt a bit of a more underhanded approach would be fun to at least place on the table. If nothing else it could serve as a hell of a distraction if it works.

Saturn is ahead something like 18 to 5 though an exact count is tricky due to changing votes. For those fretting over the slowness of the captured IC missile ships remember you could always dispatch them first and have the rest of the fleet overtake after repairs are completed. Call max Martian fleet speed about 3000kps and the Mayers/Musk can make about 2300kps.

Please do feel free to contribute stuff to the thread! I believe someone was asking about their own news vid a while back? If you want to make stuff that fits in with the plot let me know and I can give you some suggestions.

As an addendum to , which noted that all IC ships stay to defend Triton, we should instead take Musk with us and send it a week ahead with an small escort to meet up with the main force for the Saturnalia.

Yeah, the Musk is an offensive weapon, we should be using it on the offense. If I'm looking at the numbers right, it should be able to make the whole trip on its own tank of gas, and more than make up for its slow speed by cruising out ahead of time.

Sending the Musk with the intact Mayers for escort ahead sounds like a great idea to me.

As to timing, I think we should strike as soon as possible. I'd prefer not to wait even the two weeks the Naomi needs. The idea is to pay them back for Mars so politically we need to do that as soon as possible. Operationally, we have a window of opportunity now to hit a lightly defended Saturn. We don't want to give them any more time to reinforce than we need to.

I think the intact mayers would be better for the defense of Triton and act more of a deterrent along with the newly installed PDC in case that IC Fleet at Titania decides to feel a bit of risk taking.

Seriously. The general idea was to hit them while they're still licking their wounds. Three weeks - even two - plus the time to get there would give the IC too much time to recover, repair and redeploy.

Not really, no. Let them fly out to Neptune to join the fleet while repairs are underway, then the fleet can sally as one. Having the 9th wait would save fuel, but there's plenty fuel at Neptune and there's no other advantage to having them wait that I can see.

8 April, 1400hrs
With the arrival of the John Phillip Holland Repair work speeds up.

The crippled Bill Gates and Marissa Mayer are stood down while Martian Engineers try to figure out a way to fabricate their replacement engines. Victory is 21 days from repair and Naomi is 6. Tarnished Fist needs an entire engine replacement so is over a month away.

The rest of the fleet can be patched up inside a day without occupying the slipways.

Senior Missile Technician (and toast of Triton Base) Ranjani reports his crew can fabricate size three missiles for the Marissa Mayer.

Finally new crews occupy and rename the captured ships that are ready to go. The Marissa Mayer has 50 of the new size 3 missiles and the Elon Musk has its complement of IC siege missiles.

Congratulations Synthorange, Arkanterian and LL6 on your new commands! I'm sure the smell will come out eventually.

Locations:

9th Crudiv is about 5 days from Waypoint 2 where it can turn for either Saturn or Uranus or continue on course for Neptune. From Waypoint 2 both Saturn/Uranus should be about a week away.

Intel estimates that waiting for the Victory will probably mean giving the IC a chance to reinforce but a few days for Naomi should be fine.

Greetings General.

My apologies for the unorthodox method of contacting you but unfortunately circumstances dictate discretion.

As you know I am a member of the Central planning committee, what you do not know however is that I am part of a faction of the Senate that has been committed to more aggressive action against the IC and their stranglehold on the Sorium trade for some time. The Fleet Archon is a compatriot of mine and has passed on the outline of your assault plan as well as her personal recommendation that you be brought aboard.

We have been waiting for an opportunity to exploit the systematic weakness of the IC structure, namely that they are more of an economic conglomerate than a political union and they lack anything resembling the patriotism and dedication to a common goal that typifies Mars. We have been culturing friendly contacts within the ICís workers unions for a long time and believe that under the right circumstances a massive capital influx would allow them to purchase or acquire controlling share of at least one of the mega corporations that control the Sorium harvesting operations.

The financial structure is already largely prepared with enormous capital diversions coming from the Terraforming wealth fund and merely awaits the proper crisis to tumble company stock so our conspirators in the IC can seize their opportunity.

What we require from you is caution in carrying out your assault. Saturnís fuel harvesting operations must give the appearance of being badly damaged or destroyed while actually remaining as intact as possible, chaos must be sown on the surface of the Titan to disrupt the controlling corporation's operations and finally the Saturnian system must be locked down as long as possible. The Archon has expressed her confidence in your military acumen so operational details are up to you.

Our informants in the workers unions have highlighted key administrative sites on Titan and one on Rhea that are attached to this message which require destruction or assault. I am aware that this request may increase the difficulty of your operations and cost Martian lives in the process but this war cannot last forever and this is our chance to install a very sympathetic figure to the IC board or even bring about the dissolution of the IC triumvirate.

Everything could be riding on this General, i'm sure you will make the correct decision.

Dust to Life General.

||| ATTACHMENT DOWNLOADED |||
||| ERASURE ROUTINE COMMENCING |||

A look at the locations provided reveals primarily civillian administrative locations with the Titan stock exchange heading up the list. Orbital fire on these locations would no doubt result in enormous civillian casualties but ground attacks will be expensive in both men and materiel.
