SlightlyMad posted:Ship name: Lightbringer (formerly known as Marine Landing Ship Zeus 001) The best kind of ideas! Recommend battlegroup proceeds ad moderate speed to a point that allows them to approach target while keeping the two nearby bases roughly equidistant. Once point is reached, approach slowly to target, passive sensors only. Lead main group with 1 ship with good passive sensors. Trail main group with a lone vessel with good active sensors. When within firing range of the base, or likely to be detected by picket ships, trailing vessel to activate active sensors and fleet to sweep picket vessels if attacked or if spy facilities are detected groundside. Once skies are clear, initiate landing operations. Bombardment only as necessary. Ships are permitted to engage active sensors if they believe they have been detected. Though trailing should activate if in range instead of battlegroup if range permits.

In additional addition, we should contact the nearest Earth Gov battlegroup, and let them know what we've uncovered so far. The IC may be a little more open to negotiation if they see more shipping on the way.

D Inform the invoming ships that if they continue their advance we will have no choice but to destroy the fleeing vessel. Attempt capture. If the enemy fleet approaches to within twice weapon range, destroy the fleeing corvette. B And B The marines can handle things on the ground. Maybe remind them that they've surrendered?

An orbital strike seems unproductive at this time. Maybe leave a few light ships on blockade duty and wear the IC out of supplies while we scare up some troops to liberate them? And yeah, how's Terra responding to the IC invading an independant colony and threatening Pluto? and Gibraltar impproving repair and resupply while leaving Mars at full fleet strength, what's not to like? And can we get salvagers out to rip up that cruiser? Are they at risk from IC naval reprisal at all? Sadly, if we'd backed up the spec opss boys, the convoy would've been a cake walk. Let them have the destroyers if they want.

Not really worth risking our marines for a PR boost. And what if the enemy sneaks through past our spotters? Those 1-shot missile ships would love a shot at our marines. That'd seriously curtail our ability to operate.

Pash posted:I think its safe to assume that Saturn is still defended, probably at least some very strong PDCs. I think if we struck there the IC would jump on Neptune with their full outer system force. If we are gonna raid it should probably be some small ships looking to jump unprotected shipping, blowing it up and running away. Probably best to assume that SB is otherwise engaged at present. And remember, it's way eaier to salvage the IC fleet wrecks if they're close to Uranus than near Saturn!

Yes, Earth is up to SOMETHING. But how do you jump from that to IC involvement? Given the IC had an invasion fleet on its way to Pluto before we intervened.

Remember, all Earth really wants is Sorium. So offer them cheap Sorium (we had enough production before now, we don't super need Saturn's production), and joint disclosures on everything found on Pluto. What Earth DOESN'T want is: disruption to Sorium production. Another bunch of malcontents to manage 50 billion miles from their nearest base.

And it'll make Earth less inclined to kick off a shooting war if they know we're not getting a leg up over them (while we re-arm).

If we want a replacement moon that isn't Titan, how about Rhea? I'm pretty sure it had a PDC on it, so maybe it's a viable outpost spot for Mars to aid in the protection of the TFS from any future IC related aggression. And we can set up a repair station there eventually so that the TFS doesn't have to deal with the uncomfortable situation of Martian warships looming over its home. I kind of like the idea of giving the guy an out though. It's bad form to back someone too far into a corner. They might do something...reckless. We are not completely heartless though. lets at least continue negotiating for a surrender.

Point out to her that regardless of whetehr Mars or the IC win this battle, if we fight, then Earth takes Titan. Even with the harvesters the Titanians will be months before they can ship Sorium to the now extra hungry Earth. Now, if the IC fleet were to join with the Martian fleet to dissuade Earth from a military solution, the IC's negotiating position for future Sorium contracts would be greatly enhanced. And I'm sure an appreciative TFS would be more amniable to negotiating with the IC for prisoners if it were aparent that the IC are willing to keep them from being under the bootheels of the solar system's OTHER tyrants.

The red symbolises the blood that Mars shed freeing Titan. The gold represents the strength of the Titanian people. Or the Sorium which Titan will soon be exporting.

No to Terran control of Uranus. Either x-fer to Martian as part of reparations, or vote on independence. No to Terran base within Saturnian system. (though that's a TFS matter, Mars is against it on principle) We get that Terra really wants Sorium. Mars has no intention of starving her of such. Perhaps a tithe/guaranteed supply as part of IC peace treaty. Arms limits on IC navy. + guarantees of sovereignty. Jump taxes for civilian access. Refueling access for survey ships. Full sharing of JP data + planetary body count (mineral reserves may be kept secret). Until we have preliminary surveys on all Solar connected JPs, we cannot reasonably negotiate on exclusivity. There may only BE a single JP out of Sol, which would give defacto control of interstellar space to UT. Or there could be two, and the Mercury JP has limited Sorium, but Mars gets a JP with all the resources. In the interrim, any military expedition to an occupied extra solar system requires notification of classes, numbers of outgoing vessels. Perhaps deploy scouts to each JP to monitor traffic until we can be certain that neither party will be trapped within a handful of systems. As well, provisions for military access in the case of Cosmic Horrors where all powers agree to suspend combative military operations against each other in the event of unexpected troubles.
