WARNING! INTRUDERS DETECTED

I've gone the middle route with mine. I might want to respec and/or look at the vendors if there might be some force regen loot available. I really like the idea of the class (and my protagonist is a snooty well-educated exile) but I'm just constantly resource starved in battle.

I picked the hammer for starting bonus because it seemed simple enough. Get nice weapon, deal damage, kill stuff.

Just popping in to say that I like this game a lot even though I think I've built my party badly to the point where I kept getting wrecked on story missions that were allegedly a cakewalk.

Also, one thing I like about the Smuggler's Trap Card is that you don't need any of the skills to be 'active' to throw the traps out.

The train seems like a huge spike in difficulty to me.

OK so I took some of the advice in this thread and readjusted everyone's skill trees and then I won the game. Oorah.

Is it just more or did Gunslingers' "Shoot first" get a nerf? Seems like I'm getting a lot fewer of those procs versus what I got in the early game (I'm just past the train heist). Anyways, I'm finding saboteur to be more useful than gunslinger now, since with Trap Card and Flashbang you can render the entire enemy combat ineffective for at least two turns, and possibly three, depending on when your free traps go off.

I also have a Sentinel Force Psyker for the sustain and that god-tier multi-turn stun, plus the hard hitting AOE that ignores shields, along with a Malware hacker with some points in Optimization for the DOTs (that also ignore shields). My final guy is a tank soldier who also has frag grenade. I'm not very good at RPG party building.

Gunslingers aren't helped along by the fact that apparently 1) armor works on a per shot basis, which means that gunslingers already are losing additional damage to armored foes because their attack consists of a double shot, and 2) shields are degraded by a single attack, and not for each shot they deflect. Burst pistols and sub machine guns seem like the absolute worst because of that uselessness against armor. I had my main guy run a few missions with purple energy burst pistols. That was real fun watching shots bounce uselessly off armor (loads of 1s) and shields.

Is it just me or does Crack Shot sort of suck? Maybe a Specialist Soldier needs a faster weapon to get those status effects more often?

I got a fair way with a crack shotting soldier, but then got over a later difficulty spike by taking some advice in this thread and overhauling all of the skill trees of my characters, including swapping my soldier to the skill tree with lots of explosions in it.

I can't bring myself to spec a soldier out in anything other than "everything is exploding and on fire". I dunno if it's mechanically the best, but everything is exploding. And on fire. :iia:

Incidentally the Force Psyker's Barrier Prison is an brutally good skill, beeline for it if you're taking a Force Psyker.

I assume most people use a hacker in their primary team, what do you guys do for the Landtrain, where hackers are nerfed to hell?

I didn't try it, but cure-all was hinted at helping in the text.

I definitely spent a lot of time tinkering with a lot of interesting things, especially with a Force Psyker and an Engineer, looking for damage mitigation and long-term sustainability to couple with the really effective DOTs from the Hacker. But then I got a Soldier who blows things up. Maybe farther down the line I'll have a need for that kind of sustainability, but it really seems like the better option is just to blow everything up really fast. My main party is Smuggler, Hacker, Soldier, and Void Psyker, and our job is to just straight up rip things to shreds as quickly and as messily as possible.

I ran hyper-offense on my first run and stalled out after the train

Bring an extra Cure-All.

That said, when I got ambushed by the merc team that served as a boss fight my hacker got sick again and was useless for the entire fight. But Barrier Prison taking an enemy out of the fight pretty much permanently helped a lot (as was my overleveling).

I got stuck after crawling into the waste disposal unit in the "Belly of the Beast" mission. Just get a message that I'm being drawn into somewhere and then I can't move my character at all.

Ended up swapping in a smuggler for that one mission, and then finished out the game with Soldier, Cyberninja, Force Psyker, Hacker.

Some final thoughts after finishing the game, but not really going back to NG+. I did start to play a new game briefly, but then got bored. Maybe some other time. The biggest issue I have with the game is that the classes just don't seem all that balanced, though maybe I just really don't like RNG in my skills beyond accuracy and crit %.

The only bad thing about this game is you cannot change difficulty mid-way through a game. I got a few hours in and was steamrolling everything without using the broken hacker tree. Going to restart on challenging with Gunslinger Smuggler, Optimization Hacker, Void Psyker and Prototype this weekend.

I'm only a few missions in and already feeling it's too easy as well, especially since I'm also currently playing Lords of Xulima on vet which is much more difficult. So I'm going to do the same. I've been reading threads on the steam forum page and people are even saying hardcore is too easy. The only thing thats keeping me from trying it is permanent wounds.

How long is the game/varied are the random elements? Also what exactly are the 'adventure' elements CommissarMega referred to in the OP? Just FTL-y "if you have this character/skill, then get something" or more Grimrock-y puzzle sorts of things?

The game sounds really cool but it's been so long since I've bought something for full price on Steam other than Battlegrounds. :v:

Having tried the game for a bit I have to say, I wasn't expecting it to be quite as light-hearted and jokey as it was (not that I mind much).

The movement being Might and Magic style as opposed to Grimrock style was pretty annoying. Beyond that I think my biggest complaint is how boring and easy most of the enemies are. There's no real difference between different kinds that I can tell.

I also preferred Grimrock's puzzles to the FTL blue option route.

^^^ Are you talking about Grimrock's movement during combat vs M&M's static combat?

Also, I would recommend restarting and upping the difficulty to at least "challenging" before you get too far into the game.

I think the adventure elements are basically extra dialog options based on character class, I think there's also more you can do with the security lasers and drones you run into on crawls.
