As an old of 50 years, I am continually amazed at references that show me just how young it seems a lot of posters in politics are...for example all the ? Power rangers (I think, ? was that a cartoon for kids?) gifs. Also, in the Comey testimony TV IV thread it came up that John McCain's mother was 105 and still alive. So then people posted saying " yeah, I remember when computers used DOS lol." Well, at 50, I clearly remember YEARS without personal computers or cell phones for that matter....just how young are you all? What do you think the average age is of posters in, for example, the C spam goblin piss thread that I have been reading every day now for months on end?

I'm 27 and I get the sense that my age is on the low end of the average for the forums. I don't mind though, I was born a crotchety old man and by God I'll post on the internet with crotchety olds if I feel like it. Also I made my first account in 2004 when I was 14. D & D basically shaped my perception of politics/history/current events throughout my entire life. Is that inspiring or terrifying? You decide.

Uncertainty is inherently unsustainable. Eventually, everything either is or isn't.
I'm 28, but been reading the forums for a over a decade. Seems like the average poster age was much younger in the way back when of early 2000s.

This is op. I thought lots of 20s, but maybe average is 30s? Pretty crucial 20 years, no computers or cellphones until I hit 20. I remember my dad had like a backpack/ briefcase portable phone thing that must have weighed 15 pounds when I was 20ish in Washington state.

I think the average age hovers around 30 or so (I'm 31). In general SA has an older population than most internet communities, though (like reddit for example). I imagine your age of 50 makes you older than the populations of almost all internet communities not specifically targeted at something related to your age group.

I'm actually 26 and will have been on SA for 10 loving years in August.

And know the old joke about not knowing that there is a Front Page? Well I thought this site was only the Front Page for nearly 2 years back in 2005. Photoshop Phriday/Comedy Goldmine/Fashion SWAT were awesome. Then I found out about the forums through EVE Online. I unironically credit some big effort posts in GBS circa 2009 for helping turn me leftward after being conservative through high school.

That's my story.

This is a lot like me. I had no idea that there were forums for the longest time. Something Awful was pretty okay and I'd read the articles.

The forums were fantastic and I discovered them two years later when a neighbor of mine (also a goon) talked to me about SA and mentioned the forums. After that I lurked for a year or so before finally signing up because one of the threads at the time caught my eye. I haven't looked at the front page in years though. They're mostly just the forums distilled.

I'm 32.

26 (for three more months) and been coming here since January 2008. Even back then this place felt like it had an older population which is why I joined in the first place. Couldn't deal with all the teenagers on gaming forums and 4chan anymore. I had always supported leftist causes (specially after watching documentaries about the gilded age and the struggles of labor during that era) but never formally read up on leftist history until I joined SA. At first I thought all the marxists and maoist third worldists running around back then were just joking around..
