its the most slap shod flip a house in 3 weeks bullshit. the loving fake stone tile, fake marble mantle held on with mortar and no anchors. it pleases me

and the longer you look the worse it gets

door frame different colour from mouldings, white door in lenin-grey room with brown floors, you've probably got a good quarter of a board-width's worth of play in that floor from one side to the other (txt me) , fireplace with no grille or glass doors is almost definitely a code violation, whatever stonework's in front of the fireplace isn't deep enough unless there's a gas insert but if that's the case what's with the bullshit styro-stone, why does a white chair have pink threads and black leather, is the owner yao ming or did the person in the chair stick his neck up at a 40 degree angle to watch tv, and now that i think about it where's the video source for that tv even...

where should you mount the tv if the fireplace is the focal point of the room and most people don't use the fireplace anyway?

like, is the super cool hip thing to do to utterly wreck the layout of your room in service to a particular piece of electronics?

1) not buy a poo poo house with poor layout

or

2) renovate and have the fireplace removed

or, as a last resort

3) actually use a mount and attach it to the wall and run wires on the ground like a animal you piece of poo poo

and if you're an architect and design a fake fireplace into your plans, come up with some other ideas for a focal point you lazy gently caress.

if it's not freezing and snowing for like half the year you don't need a fireplace at all

agreed, I love a real wood fire if someone else gets up early to light it and tidies up at the end of the day. otherwise, I'll just stick to pressing the 'ignite' butan thank you.

the house i grew up in had a fireplace in the center of the living room with the brick chimney going up like a pillar, and for a while we had the tv up against the back of it, and then we made a fire one night and the back of the tv melted

look i understand that a lot of folks in this forum center their lives around their consumer electronics but for regular people it's not a concern

the main room in which people relax quite frequently is configured that the fireplace is at the focal point of the room, so it's a natural place to put the tv

if you're willing to upend your life and/or spend thousands of dollars to accommodate a particular piece of consumer electronics good on you, but you must understand that's a very abnormal behavior

americans spend a lot of time and money justifying that the thing they stare at 4-9 hours a day [or is on next to them as they stare at a second smaller thing] isn't "the focal point" even though it's probably 99% of all time spent in living rooms

fireplaces are cool if you actually use them but i'm also one of those weirdos that doesn't really watch TV and thinks that a communal place like the living room should be filled with conversation rather than sitcoms, so what do I know
