I'm considering buying an xb1x, but I'm confused about a lot of MS' weird policies. Does this new 'all games on xbox and pc' thing mean I'll be playing against people using mouse-aim? That sounds like a nightmare.

Iirc some games ask console owners to opt into crossplay.

Also the rumormill says xbox will be getting m&kb game support very soon with official xbox hardware from razer coming too.

The opt in thing is cool, the m&kb support not so much. I play on console because I want to lay back in my recliner and chill out. I don't want to have to use some weird setup where I'm sitting behind a hospital tray. Hopefully they still allow you to opt out.

edit: guess it doesn't really matter since console users will be on kb&m too.

I wanted to play the collections to catch up with series before playing the new ones. I guess the story doesn't really matter for these games though so I'll just get the new ones.

The stories kinda do matter, without them they lose any feeling they have.

Would buying MC and the 360 versions of Gears 1-3 be the way to go? Do the unnumbered games matter?

To those acting like I'm an idiot for buying an expensive console to play old games: Don't worry, I'll get plenty of new games. I just thought this would be a good way to get into MS' major franchises.

Obviously some games like PUBG, Overwatch, etc will be more popular on PC though.

I'm not sure where you are finding empty lobbies on PC, but popular games are doing very well and it's easy to find games. Unpopular games have low player count on xbox/playstation as well.

He's confused why COD 43 and NBA 2K29 aren't the top of steam. Console online games peaked around that Era. They really died when party chat was solidified and everybody ran away never to socialize with anybody outside of their bubble ever again. Half the fun of games like Halo were the random funny moments and actually being able to talk to the enemy team. Console games had real communities back then.

Yeah, that sucks. My favorite gaming memories were talking with strangers in Counter Strike and forming strategies. Now it's just random chaos that gets old after an hour or so.

It's good for a college kid or teenager or just someone who can't afford to buy a system and a bunch of games. And the price isn't even predatory so I don't get the cynicism from people. If it worked out to twice the price over time or something I'd be all in on bashing it but it works out pretty much 1:1 if you don't take into account hunting for deals, which I think is fair. I think it's a good idea tbh even if I have no interest in it at all personally.

I don't get why people would expect it to work out to an overall discount on the system or it's monthly services. It's kind of remarkable it isn't the other way around because that is usually how that poo poo works.

It's not a bad deal on paper. I just don't like these sort of deals in general because they prey on people who want something but can't afford it.

If it was preying on people the price would work out to more than you would pay for (not hypothetical sale price obviously) retail in the end. Which is almost always how those deals work. Rent to own, Payday loans etc. all of that poo poo is predatory. This is not because all it does is spread out to cost. poo poo, it even lets you back out of it if you pay off the system. There is nothing about it that is predatory, it just gives people more options.

"Prey" was the wrong word. What I mean is that these kind of deals confuse idiots who are bad with budgeting. Like I said, I think it's a fine deal for responsible people.

I'm back from my business trip and I've been watching Walking Dead season 8 on my XB1X on a 1080p plasma and the image quality seems insane compared to my OG PS4. does it do supersampling or something?

To Xbox Ambassador:

I have to make another trip because my mom broke her arm. Shouldn't take long. I still plan on hooking up for some online goodness. 2 questions:

1. What are the top games you guy's play?

2. Should I buy a headset to communicate?

Weird, how are you watching it, streaming? It could be pulling a higher bitrate stream but there isn’t explicitly a hardware reason with the X where that would be the case; every device which can stream at 1080p should essentially give you identical results if they’re setup correctly (i.e. not streaming at a lower res due to settings)

Yeah, I'm watching it on Netflix. I thought maybe some newer shows streamed at over 1080p or something. Could just be a subconscious thing.

The hardware works fine, but anytime I try to watch Netflix or do anything else that requires internet it just tells me to gently caress off. Nextflix and other stuff worked fine before this. It also works fine on my other connected devices. I went through every menu and submenu and also spent an hour or two banging my head against the lovely automated help system. Anyone know how to contact an actual person or have any other suggestions?

Is it giving the error “try again in a minute or so..” if so you should hard reset your router, and hard reset your Xbox by holding the front button down until it powers off. Restart both. Usually that clears what I only imagine is a cache or memory error and things should work again. If not that, you might try direct cat5 cable to your router instead of WiFi. I dunno, your post is asking for help but seems to be using colorful metaphors instead of any real descriptors that might allow us to figure out what problem you’re actually having. Seems like self-ownage almost akin to buying an Xbox in the first place.

Your device may not be connected to the internet. Please make sure your connection is working. code: N4-1-19

I've tried hard reseting the modem and system. There's little else I could find from googling and contacting support. No way am I stringing more cables around my apartment.

That's a distinct possibility. Anyway I fixed it after randomly loving around with every menu on my xbox. When in doubt, just gently caress until you either fix it or gently caress it up worse. That's my motto.
