Honestly I had the opposite problem with Mad Max, I just wanted to gently caress around destroying convoys and taking over territory but it locked all the good upgrades behind doing the story.

In general but there's a lot of older PC games that are close to impossible to get to run on modern systems. Including ones that Steam still sells.

There aren't even that many though, like LotF, The Surge and Nioh are all I can think of (plus a couple that aren't out yet) and two out of those three are good.

The only scary parts of DS2 were the hosed up raptor necros and how many times I died to the stupid eye poke machine, it was too constant action otherwise.
