Dejan Bimble posted:

Here's the most intriguing one: Charlotte trades MKG and someone else worth about 2m for Paul George, MKG is on the Pacers timeline, could learn to not be a human cannonball, and his departure would let the Hornets return to the really good flowing offense that got them the third best record 2 years ago. George would like winning one playoff series, maybe 2, maybe he stays. And if he leaves, then Charlotte isn't capped out for the following 2 years. ;)

I'd do this and a pick in a heartbeat but unfortunately I don't think MKG has enough juice to swing it. They might have a better shot dangling Batum but it'd probably hurt them long-term even if I like the idea of a stealth blow-up

The sourcing in that story is hilarious. A throwaway line in some article says Boston and 28 other teams would like to trade for Anthony Davis

Do you seriously think that Danny Ainge is leaking that?

Here's the original article The Score is pulling that "report" from:

quote:

Boston made the deal … for what? A cleaner shot at Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum, two players who play the same position as last year’s first-rounder, Jaylen Brown, who was selected No. 3 overall? A chance to hoodwink Jackson-starved Sacramento into flipping the fifth and 10th pick for No. 3?

Is a blockbuster, player-heavy deal in the offing? As of now, league sources told The Vertical that isn’t the case. Boston – everyone, really – would love to get its hands on Anthony Davis. But Davis is tied to a manageable contract through 2021, and the Pelicans appear committed to giving the Davis-DeMarcus Cousins pairing a full season together.

Jimmy Butler? Boston’s already overflowing chest of assets should have been enough for the Celtics to make a competitive offer. Paul George? With no guarantee of re-signing, any offer, Boston’s included, will be quarters on the dollar.

It's just a list of dudes they might think about trading for in theory maybe

Morey just said last week he's ready to up his risk profile. He traded a protected first and some flim flam for Ty Lawson when Lawson was bottoming out. Seems like a probable candidate to take a crack at PG.

e: lol hey i'll clarify for you Ringer NBA Guy: we can 100% infer that #2 is so far away from the table it's in outer space.

If the Cavs can find a deal for him I'd at least consider it if I was L.A. The Lakers are probably going to be real bad next year and it'd be really hard to walk away from a Finals team for less money.

Not sure why Hayward would take a paycut to leave a somewhat promising Utah team to go play for an awful Indiana team with no PG. And if Indiana loses PG, they should be gunning for picks not trying to chase a 30 win season with Hayward.

Just looking at their history, Indy would absolutely chase a 30-win season.

If Indy doesn't get a good return for PG they are likely to be close to 76ers-pre-Hinkie territory with their roster.

After Myles Turner their 2nd most valuable asset would be Thad Young. I don't think Monta or Big Al would return anything more than a late 2nd round pick in a trade.

Assuming they match salaries they're going to have like $50 million in cap space, if they trade PG for picks they could have more. The free agent crop isn't great but that's a lot of ammo to overpay good-not-great dudes.

quote:

On Chris Mannix’s NBC Sports Radio show, Adrian Wojnarowski said that Paul George’s camp is informing teams that he is not going to re-sign with anyone, regardless of who trades for him. He is fully intending to sign with the Lakers in free agency next summer without them giving up substantial assets. The Pacers are calling teams to see what they can get for him but other teams are trying to determine how much is worthwhile to give up.

The Hornets might be kind of good

They're going to be crazy thin on the wing and at PG unless they hit on both their picks, but it should be interesting. Dwight helps fix one of their biggest issues, offensive rebounding, and I think they'll get back to top-10 on defense. If Frank and MKG show any growth, they could get back to the 48-win range they were at in 15-16.

They were kind of doomed when they bottomed out and didn't land a star, but I'm ok with decent for a while. The way the contracts work they can do a hard reboot in two years if things get bad.
