Toronto needs to trade him to the Pacers for Paul George, before everyone figures it out Demar houses the Raptors' spirit and he must stay on the team at all costs.

Gobias Ind. posted:If the Raptors get both Ibaka and Lowry on 3 year deals for under $30M I think that's pretty good. Length is what made me hesitant, but 3 years sounds about right. 27x3 for Lowry would be a coup. It also puts him, Demar, and Ibaka all on the same schedule as the Raptors crest over their nominally competitive period and ease into building the Delon-Poeltl era Raptors.

So am I right in thinking that a framework of Kyrie for IT, Crowder, and a 1st would be extremely lopsided in Cleveland's favour? What would they have to add to balance that out?

WhyteRyce posted:To an uninformed outside observer, deliberate tanking is indistinguishable from a rebuilding team that is playing all their young guys. It's not really an easy to create rules that identifies and fixes the problem What I like about this system is that is that it obviates the issue of a team really stripping themselves to trash (The Sabres in hockey are probably the most extreme reecent example. I dunno just how close the Sixers got to that) without punishing teams that naturally bottom out from being in that stage where they're selling players and playing young guys. It lets bad teams just be bad, without that extra pressure to just be total rear end.

Intruder posted:Entertainment in general seems for some reason particularly susceptible to the "stick to sports!" or "stick to movies/tv!" reaction even though people in literally every other profession have no problem sharing their own views in various forums be they public or private Speaking specifically about sports (I'm not so confident in speaking about other entertainment), I think it's that sports irreducibly trades in sympathy. For all other reasons you may be watching and participating as a fan, at the end of the day you're not just cheering for (e.g.) LeBron, but you're investing yourself in his personal success. LeBron making an unignorable political statement — be it about Trump or Trayvon or racism in general — will force some fans to confront the fact that they're not meaningfully allied with LeBron, and what they value and he values are different. It creates some sort of imaginative resistance. There's probably also something about pro sports spectacle mediating civic participation, but I guess that's where my mind is at now.
