THAT'S SPECTACULAR.
I wanted to get into this when I was living in Japan but I never got around to it and the text-heavy Japanese was a bit much more me. Nevertheless, here I am now. I've been rerolling my first summon for a while and I'm a little sick of it.

The most recent one I've gotten has given me a 3* Ushiwakamaru and a 4* Carmilla, which tier lists tell me are good servants to start with. I'm a bit wary of tier lists though, so do you folk think that's a good enough start? I don't have any prior knowledge about this franchise apart from it being a porn once or something so I'm not attached to any of these characters. This Carmilla looks pretty metal though.

They sounds like keepers then! The other three star units are apparently pretty average (Darius III, Babbage) but if i'm going to be coming across them a lot, I won't give them too much weight. Thanks!

THAT'S SPECTACULAR.
Alright, I'm digging this game. Even though this is essentially just characters lining up and taking pot-shots at each other, it's got more than enough fiddly bits and min-maxing crap to keep me engaged. I'm still only halfway through Italy in the story so it's going to be a minute before I'm dog-piling Merlin all over everything like a pro. Before I go into anything else, Jesus Christ this story is boring. I know it's a gatcha story, but gently caress me, I was only halfway through France before I started hammering the skip button. Anyways, this is who I've been rolling with and who has been left on the bench. Is there anyone I should be using/investing in instead? Again, I don't have any particular attachment to any of the characters so going for the waifus and husbandos doesn't really apply here.

The Team
- Carmilla: Fukken A+ chick right here. Sometimes she does feel a bit under-powered plinking away with quick cards until she very suddenly is not.
- Mash: what an absolute loving U N I T she is. I assume it's worthwhile stuffing her face with the all-purpose EXP cards, right? Because that what I've been doing and I haven't been regretting it.
- Ushiwakaru: I got a bunch of her on that Moon banner and maxed out her Phantasm to 5/5, so she wrecks face. Also, the standard operating procedure with her and Mash is to drop her Tengu Strat and Mash's snowflake thingy on turn one and then rank up the arts cards and unleash hell while being drat-near invulnerable to harm. I got these three on my first pull on the tutorial banner and really haven't used any one else. Still-
- Cu Chulainn: I only use him occasionally, but he's a loving madlad and I goddamned love getting his x4 attack combo because it sounds like I'm letting off a shotgun in a library.
- David: Solid enough and seems good for pumping up the arts.

I don't have an active Caster or a Berserker yet. Are any of the bench ones any good? Again, is there a good unit somewhere here that I've overlooked?

The Bench
- Tawara Touta
- Billy the Kid
- Some elementary school child who I'm told is supposed to be Gilgamesh
- Eurayle
- Arash
- Diarmuid Ua Duibhne
- Musashibou Benkei
- Anne Bonny & Mary Read
- Boudica
- Georgious
- Geronimo
- Paracelsus von Hoenhelm
- Cu Chulainn (hoodie version)
- William Shakespeare
- Hans Christian Andersen
- Mozart
- Henry Jekyll and Hyde
- Jing Ke
- Phantom of the Opera
- Hassan of the Cursed Arm
- Mata Hari
- Sasaki Kojirou
- Kiyohime
- Some kind of disgusting furry bara porn Eric Bloodaxe
- Asterious

Essence cards are fun and I can't wait to actually be able to apply some of these higher-tier ones to characters. I'm a little weary about enhancing them or this Limit Breakthrough thing though. What do I do with the monkey-gorillian Tenacity (and co) cards? Can someone give me the low-down on what I should do with doubles of high-starred Essence cards? Are the cards I have any good? I have:

- Devilish Bodhisattva (I got this one from a one-off free summon from the single ticket you get from grinding those green cubes. This feels like a luckshit)
- Moon Goddesss' Bath (x2)
- Golden Millennium Tree
- Moony Jewel (x4 what the hell do I do with these?)
- Angel's Song
- Divine Banquet
- Verdant Sound of Destruction
- Projection
- and then a bunch of three star stuff

Lastly just a couple of quick things:
- I assume I'm supposed to stockpile these Kou cards for when/if i get a 5-star, right?
- Bless daily missions and their loot
- The Fire Emblem: Heroes gatcha is like a nice shower after a day's work. The F:GO gatcha is like someone tossing you naked into the backyard and hosing you down
- I'm only getting sprayed down by the gatcha hose when I have a full 30 rainbow wonka chewing gum chunks, which is really what I should be doing to maximise value, right?
- Jesus loving Christ there's a lot of in-game items and currency and faffing about
- Jesus loving Christ this is grindy as poo poo
- Jesus loving Christ this Merlin dude trivializes everything.
- Is there anything dire I'm really missing?

THAT'S SPECTACULAR.
Thanks for all the advice, folks. Especially that one goon that suggested stapling Devilish Bodhisaavattavbavatav to Arash's forehead. That Phantasm of his seems almost unfair and now a lot of my strat just involves pumping his NP bar and keeping him alive long enough to blart a Stella on to a level's boss and their mooks then switching-out to one of the OP units from the servant list.

I really like that mechanic as well. I try not to rely on them, but bosses can be just HP-bloating, crit-spewing, cheating bastards so using them to win would have otherwise saved me from uninstalling the game and throwing my phone under a truck. It's also a great to just get a chance to use rare, powerful characters that I'm probably not going to get a chance to use anyway. The thing I probably like best about this game is the outlandish and ridiculous character designs and combat animations are. In particular, I like using Merlin (of course), literally any version of Cu, heavy metal Jeanne, this grimdark Dante fellow, the bikini woman riding a blue and gold moon thing, motherfucking HERC, the pink magical girl with pink fire wings, the nerd schoolboy with a red cape for whatever reason, the gigantic snakelady and especially that summer foxgirl who whallops enemies with a beach umbrella. It's just plain fun.

Story-wise, I'm halfway through pirates and I've stopped auto-skipping. It's not grabbed me yet but Francis and co is just fun enough to keep me engaged. You folk said the story gets better, so I'm giving it another shot.

With one luckshit exception, the gatcha has been a bit of a non-event. I've only pulled 5 times on a proper gatcha with everything else coming from the gazillion pulls on the friend one. I've been able to form what appears to be a good, fun team from units from there, so I'm not all that fussed about it.

Archer: my boy Arash. David, Tawara, Billy, Gil and Robin are all benched. I tried Euryale on your folk's recommendation, and her niche is unique and fun enough that I'll probably use her once I get sick of Arash.

Lancer: still Cu Chulainn, and he still both hits like a truck and tanks like a champ. I got another, different Cu, which was confusing. I pulled a Leonidas but as awesome as his art looks, I've yet to even play with him.

Saber: Julius Caesar. Literally the only saber I have. Even if he wasn't I'd still use him because he's pretty good: he supports well, his NP is good and he has boob jiggle physics on his gut. Good stuff.

Rider: still Ushiwakamaru and she is still carrying me even moreso after investing in her. The taunt that Georgious has looks really useful and you guys recommended him, so I'll look into him one of these days. Anne and Mary too, because hey, four stars. I pulled an Alexander too but it seems like he plays pretty similar to Ushi, so pass.

Caster: I luckshit a 5* dude called Zhuge Liang just this afternoon! I had invested in Hans as per everyone's recommendation and he was good, but not blowing me away although his NP was better than expected. Zhuge seems like he's designed in the same way Hans and Merlin is so I'm going to switch to him. It's a bit of a pity that, in a game full of magical girls and monster lads, my first 5* in this game is just a dude in a suit, but hey, a 5* unit. I went into this game expecting to never ever get one so heeeey! I'm a happy chappy.

Assassin: still Carmilla and she still rocks. I've since pulled a Hassan of the Serenity, Charles Sanson and a Fuuma Kotarou, but I'm just having too much fun with Carmilla to bother with any of them.

Berserker: now here's something interesting. As soon as I poured all my cards down Kiyohime's neck, I got a couple of Spartacus's dropped on me, which is a unit you all recommended. And then, this afternoon in the same pull as Zhuge, I got Ibaraki-Douji, who I see as an option in the servant list all the time. Is she good? It feels like she might be good. I really like using Berserkers, so I want to invest in all three of them, but I take it she's the one I should be focusing on the most. I haven't had much of a chance to play her and compare her to the other two. How does she differ from the other two?

So, yeah, there's another newbie report. I'm having fun with my current team, I'm enjoying the story more, I got a 5-star unit and what appears to be a meta Berserker. Good times. Thanks for all your help and send me your friend requests: 072 956 452.

Good advice all round here, especially that last bit about having an AoE and ST guy in each class. I'm happy that Ibaraki is a bit bulkier because I've been having trouble keeping other berserkers alive, especially Kiyo.

Shiny777 posted:

As for the 'Zerkers, Kiyohime and Spartacus have AoE NPs while Ibaraki's is single target, so the former two are better suited to clearing out waves and doing general day to day farming while Ibaraki's better for killing bosses.

Pierson posted:

She's really good, one of the best single-target Berserkers to dismantle bosses, or when you just need a specific enemy off the field immediately. Her second and third skills are about survivability to help her reach that boss, and her first skill buffs her attack by 20% and NP damage by 30% so it hits like a truck. It also debuffs their defence afterwards (with overcharging it giving it even greater debuffs) so any attacks you do afterwards hit even harder. She's REALLY good.
Also good to know. That's one thing that's going to need to figure out: what units are best at what part of the game, so thanks. Her kit sounds amazing.

quote:

One of the best things about Waver is that just by levelling him and unlocking his skills you can just straight-up give any team-member an immediate 50% NP bar (30% to one person for his first skill and 20% each to the whole team from skills 2 and 3) so if a character has a craft essence that starts you with 50% NP you can immediately fire one off. Unfortunately you've missed some of the best free ones from events but Demonic Bodhisattva can do it.
Holy hell. That... that is very, very powerful. Demonic Bodhisattva came immediately to mind before I even finished reading. I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of these two.
