I think I accidentally found a small 'sploit that I'm not the first to notice, but when you swap channels, you enter a new local instance including new respawn tables, so it's not unlikely that if you move to a boss mob's spawn and then shift to another channel, they might just be standing there chillin'. I accidentally did this standing at Necross today while I was trying to find my groupmates in my party, and was like hmm, I bet this is totally abusable for some of those more out of the way bosses.. I wonder if a 5 player party could abuse this mechanic by sendnig out a scout who then calls everyone to switch to a channel when they fnid a boss..? :D

I'd really like to get an elf ruin or ant party auto-running on stuff that drop blood, I got well over 1100 blood in about 2 hours today on my new archer, in a 5 person party sitting on a boss spawn with 10m autocombat range.

Ant captains are too aggressive and dangerous to afk on at least below level 50 or 60 imho, but we could get a lot of loot and exp for folks if we could get a party or two going to just knock down monsters and have a private but known drop=-in-drop-out party. What are the cool gamers using to communicate these days in phone games?

It'll be worse for like 20 minutes, just put it on and use it and don't think about it.

I'd say it's fine unless you want to min-max like mad. I'm certainly more able to farm more efficiently on my archer however, I have to actively kite a lot more when i run into tough fights, wheeras my mage just popped a mana pot or two and killed everything, I might have to kite for 5 heal pots (arcehr is better at kitnig than mage though, due to skill-firing speed).

Making a second character once you've gotten to 31+ is not a terrible idea though, because I was able to sstreamline my leveling a lot, and ended up with 800 health and mana potions and like 500k adena at level 30.. Just slap on the first C grade gear you find then turn autosalvage up to C for a while, and then just put on B grade gear until you have a set, and level all of that stuff to 30 (but don't level your gear until after a daily reset, so you can milk the level ups and enhancements for free exp!). You'll definitely want to upgrade some trash weapon before that point, but I only do that when Iwas struggling to beat bosses.. Turn mana pots off entirely, and turn health pots off as well - you know enough to heal once where the bot might use 5, now..! Save adena always, and don't bother trying to grind in elite dungeons until you're 25 for the 1st, and 31 for the second. A big spam group is good adena and exp overnight, but they're tough to get into at low level - just follow the biggest cluster of players in the biggest party you can join and be auto-accepted, if it's a good party it'll slowly fill up and stay full.

Silver Archer's speed boost is loving nice though, and a big help when you're in a big clusterfuck trying to tap mobs before they get killed. Archer skills seem to mainly fire off instantly where my mage spells have a like 1-1.5 second delay before they go off, a lot of the time, which means I waste less mana on poo poo that already is dead.

Go ahead and kick ceejay whenever you feel like it, I'll make a point to grind blood during hot time while ceejay's still in the guild though.

To elaborate on this because it's super useful at leveling quickly or grinding effectively - learn to use the party-searching function!

I don't mean the one that's offered when you try to join a dungeon, you need to click the little "party" tab next to the on-screen quest tab, then choose create (left option) or manual join (center option), and then swipe around trying to find the fullest party you can with the right title (that's just the logged reason the party was posted, "All" means the leader chose multiple options when advertising). You can access most of the party UI from other spots, but when you're soloing on poo poo you don't have to watch closely, play around with the party search and creation features. Learn to use the publicity option to advertise, and what its limitations are.

Best shortcut I've found for finding an elite dungeon group when by yourself, is to enter the dungeon you want and then start autowalking to whatever you mean to kill. Then start searching manually for the nearest party.

Party searching optimization so far seems to mainly be: go into the dungeon you want first, then start auto-walking toward whatever you intend to farm. While walking, open up party search -> manual -> Nearest, and find the biggest party you can. Join that party, switch to their channel (if you miss the auto-join chance, just use the "move to leader" option but it will reset you at the entrance to the zone), and then open the map, and tap the greyed out "party" button up near the center top of the screen.. If you're in your party's channel AND there's someone in the area in your party, it'll ping blue dots (clan members ping green but I've never seen one in action). If they're not where you want to farm, ask once in party chat for what you want, keep walking. Then you'll either get kicked, ignored, or negotiated with.

If the party has a good grind on a specific mob, you'll be able to notice right away by the leader responding, or by the cluster of blue dots, and because the leader will kick any stragglers quickly, and they'll be replaced quickly. Move to the thickest cluster of dots and start grinding while you discuss what to farm next. A good party that's got auto-join left open can zombie on indefinitely, as people leave and are replaced, but if one person gets leader and messes with settings or something, it'll die just as organically as it might've sustained itself.

Pretty much always leave a party open to auto join, unless you have a group of folks already lined up, and because it'll save you effort if you're the leader because savvy players will join and see what's going on and immediately respond to it positively.

Bottom of settings -> Battle, select the notch you desire for salvage. Also set the range notch you want your toon to run past their start from - they might move several areas away in a few hours if you leave this too broad.

Auto refers to either tapping a quest icon so it's got the animated "flamey" border, or the little button that says "auto" on the bottom right by the chat window.

If you leave it blue, it'll burn mana at whatever the AI likes best (a good reason to leave one ability under-leveled, so it goes of the most often), or yuo can set it to yellow, which means your character will auto-attack everything in the range from either the spot it was standing when you turned on auto, or sSOMETIMES the spot you got the last kill from. Sometimes it'll reset to your starting point past a grip of mobs, if you leave it at 30m in a crowded area.

Auto-attack range is in settings-battle, visible as soon as you open the correct tab. 0 means you'll mostly stay stationary - but the toon WILL wander a ways!

Your character will always autoattack back at any enemy which hits them even if auto is set to off - this is how you farm in super-aggro areas like ant capts.. I think this is also a toggle you can turn off - that's your problem don't ask me.

Your character will always prioritize blue quest and red quest objectives over actual things going on on-screen, which means they might leave 4 incapped enemies and walk back for a turn in, or they may hump a wall while getting attacked by aggro trash. You can usually use the movement button to adjust location without loving up autopilot IF you weren't using the autopilot from the minmap, which ony focses to one given grouping of that enemy type, and stands you in the middle.

edit: it's not super reliable and definitely a bit fumbley however, you can also force blue/yellow auto-QUESTING settings, if you dink around togling the active quest you're on, and the blue and yellow autofight toggle, in different orders. Have fun!

How the gently caress are you guys managing to level stuff enough for combines? I have About 3 S pieces, everything else A. I've done the single combine from the quest and haven't had enough time to level everything to a point where combining 2 A's can happen.

Should I be leaving my S's at level 1 and combining until I have a second? Should I be combining C's to see if they become rare and focus on those?

Note: I'm currently around level 34.

Don't combine anything. And don't use your upgrade stones to upgrade a piece of gear to a higher rank unless you really know what you're doing - otherwise you'll just regret it once you figure out how much adena and items and time was lost.

You ignore trash weapons except to the point you need to scrape past early chokepoint fights, then you end up rich as Midas at level 30.

Anything below A is literally vendor trash. A is vendor trash as well, it just might take a couple days to get a set. I'd level B gear to get quests done early, A gear as a backup set from 20-40th, and then nothing ever but S. Every time I kept a stash of weapons and tried to combine them up I'd literally find another higher ranked version of that item within a day of being ALMOST done leveling up all the poo poo I needed to combine. Don't combine, it's a trap

Pinball Jizzard

I haven't combined anything yet outside of the quest, nor have I enhanced (more than required for class quest and original quest).

When is combining a thing? Are you auto trashing C loot or only once you've got items to level 30 across the board?

S weapon, hat and gloves, A armour and boots, neck, ring, B neck. Is my current setup. All armour is 30, weapon is around 25 and jewellery around 20. After my weapon and jewellery is 30 what should I be auto-selling? Space isn't a concern right now (200 bag spaces) but progressing as a mostly F2P player is kinda my thing.

(edit: what would you suggest is best to farm overnight, bloods or lower level cores?)

coyo7e

you def want S body armor asap. I've found that I can get plenty of blood or cores in a good group, and that you almost always get both at the same time.

edit: to clarify, if you end up in a self-sustaining bossmob grinding group, you're going to have 1000+ blood and probably 400+ cores in an hour or three. Go all night and you'll have plenty of cores and blood for a while. But nobody's going to be farming level 12 bats in elf ruins 1 in a party like that, which is why you may not farm some cores in a party.

I've been using Cs and Bs to level up As and combining to (hopefully) get rare Ss. So far only got a rare weapon, but that's pretty decent. I hate wasted resources so upgrading non-rare items seems like a waste, and you can only get rares through combining. So saying 'never combine anything' seems counterproductive?

Zotix
Aug 14, 2011

Combining isn't a trap and is the only way to get stuff worth investing into. The chance for a rare is about 20%,you really don't want to invest into anything that isn't a rare. Just level up other gear enough to allow you to do content, that's it. Combine A grade all day until you get rares.

Pinball Jizzard

Did a combine for my Mercs Journey. It happened to become a rare S piece. Does this mean:

A. If I combine it, I may get a non-rare R piece and therefore I need to upgrade; or
B. The rare is locked in and I can combine OR upgrade as I prefer?

Secondly, enhancement:

A. I can enhance, if combined it maintains the enhance;
B. I can upgrade, it maintains the enhance;
C. Either works
D. You always lose the enhance.

Zotix
Aug 14, 2011

You always keep the enhance. Once you have a rare you upgrade. You only combine to fish for rares.

If you combine an item that's already rare you have the chance of losing the rare.

I've been using this when I need to fight the area sub-boss mobs. They are all on different timers on the channels so if you get to the spot and they are not there you can jump to another channel and hopefully find them. There is a 3 minute time on changing channels though. You can also use this if there are 10 people waiting for the mob to spawn, change channel to find a less crowded spot.

It does look like the main field bosses are on the same timers across the channels though. I was hoping that they weren't because I always seem to miss them and there are usually 300 people at them when it gets within 20 minutes of spawn time.

It's handy in that you can usually get a couple of kills in one cycle by switching to a later channel once the first one dies. I hear the higher level bosses (Flagon, Sina) can often be killed in each channel in sequence by the same group which gets you a lot of poo poo.

I think for western release the whole mercs journey needs to be looked at. I get it, it's rewarding and all but some of this poo poo is crazy. I'm now at about the third point where I have to level 3+ times to advance any further. The rewards are always awesome, but it feels soul shattering to realise you have to grind a fair bit of poo poo just to participate in the next.

Finally upgraded a soul crystal at level 42. The next step is 150 monsters killed in Ants Nest 2. Minimum entry at 45.

Codex on the other hand is probably my new favourite mobile phone thing. It's not overly rewarding, but rewarding enough to make sure when I go to bed, I've set myself up to auto-grind for some character progression.

Lol thanks. It's not that huge a milestone though. The pattern of leveling opens up around level 17 and pretty much remains constant until where I am at. You do quests for a level and then need 3 levels of xp some how before getting more story quests. Doing all your dailies, grinding while afk, and such normally gets me there each day or very close. The biggest progression speed up is extending hot time if in a group that's farming right at your level range, as well as doing as many quest scrolls as you can daily. I get about 10-20 A grade scrolls daily and I'll reset them as many times as needed to burn through them. They are big chunks of xp like 6-8% each.
