I thought the movie was great, Holland was excellent. Easily one of the best MCU films.

This movie is like freaks and geeks:Spider-Man edition, and it's great for it.

1. Spider-Man: homecoming 2. Winter soldier 3. Dr Strange 4. Civil War It gets harder to rank them after that. The next clump is the three iron man movies and ant man, but I'm struggling to put them in order. Below those are guardians of the galaxy, Avengers 1 and Captain America 1. At the bottom is Age of Age of Ultron, which I thought was a very mediocre movie. I haven't seen hulk or the Thor Movies.

I forgot to mention guardians 2. It was worse than 1 but still in the same ballpark.

Guy A. Person posted:Toomes is clearly "worse" than Tony Stark but the questions of why that is and why what Tony is doing is still very bad are good ones that aren't really tackled in the movie. He just mentions "hey remember how Stark made his billions by selling weapons which killed people?" and Spidey just ignores it. Not even an argument or denial, just starts talking about something else. I feel like this is a pretty big missed opportunity. I'm sick of seeing people make this argument. Governments have a legal right to kill people, through waging war, or execution, or the use of force in law enforcement, etc; all of which is regulated by a legal framework. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a company manufacturing the equipment used by the military of a legitimate sovereign power. To suggest it's the same thing as selling weapons illegally to random criminals on the street is completely idiotic.

Kevin Feige has explicitly said that Michelle is not Mary Jane Watson. The initials were just intended to be a wink to the fans. She is a different character, so people can stop worrying about her character being ruined.

They should totally do a spiderman netflix series. It makes sense with him being more street level, it would let him hang out with daredevil, and a tv series would be a great way to flesh out the high school coming of age comedy that homecoming did so well.

evobatman posted:Marvel very intentionally hires comedy/drama directors to make the MCU movies, and outsources the action scenes to second unit directors. It's how they get funny, likeable characters, and even the worst of the MCU movies are at least decently competent from a filmmaking perspective. DC put all their eggs in Zack Snyders basket, a 100% action director who only knows one way to make a movie. 300, Sucker Punch, Watchmen, Man of Steel and BatsVSupes all look and feel exactly the same. Civil War managed to make 12 heroes feel more developed and rounded than BvS could do with 2-3. Snyder is a terrible director, even by action standards. Like marginally better than Michael Bay. If you kept the tone and the basic plot points the same, but handed man of steel and BvS to Christopher Nolan or someone you would have had a far better movie. 95% of action movies are absolute poo poo because they're just 90+ minutes of frantic explosion porn interspersed with as little plot or dialogue as they can get away with. The rare good action movie employs restraint, scaling back the action scenes, directing them properly so you can actually follow what's happening, and uses them to support a strong, well written plot with good dialogue. Incidentally this is why Age of Ultron is the worst movie in the MCU - It's the one that strays the furthest into the Bay-Snyder movie style. It's still a passable movie though, not remotely in the same league as the Snyder stuff or even worse poo poo like transformers.

I rented BvS on iTunes - never bothered to see it live. It was utterly forgettable, and I kept looking at the forums on my phone as I was watching. I wouldn't have been able to do that at the cinema. All I could think was 'gee I'm glad I didn't waste $24 to see it in the cinema.'

Steve2911 posted:Because they're not Thai and give no fucks? That doesn’t explain why the Thai restaurant had chopsticks in the first place. It would be like going to an Italian restaurant and randomly being given chopsticks. Thai people eat with a fork and a spoon.

It must be an American thing, I’ve never seen chopsticks in a Thai restaurant in Australia.
