drat this was good. I can't think of a single character that I didn't enjoy the hell out of. Michelle was wonderful, and though it was kinda contrived I was super happy for the guarantee that she'd be a major character going forward.

Considering how many characters teases and cameos there were, I was surprised that there was no mention of Gwen Stacey or the Osborns. Unless I missed it. I get that they're pretty done to death now though so it's probably best to leave them be. And any Norman Osborn not played by Willem Dafoe will forever be a waste of the character anyway.

I also enjoyed that the last words in a 12 rated Marvel movie were 'What the gently caress'.

I think people being disappointed that this didn't have any origin stuff kind of miss somewhat that this is a coming of age story which in it's way a origin story. It isn't a story about how Spider Man got his powers or how he decides to fight crime or be a superhero , but instead how Peter Parker becomes Spider - Man. I thought that was really interesting.

Also we've seen the origin story on screen twice in the last 15 years. I'm super glad they decided not to waste any time on it this time around.

I can just imagine a film that takes an hour to get Peter in the suit, then introduces Keaton's Vulture as a threat, and it's just the same loving thing we've seen in every other one of these films. We were lucky to avoid it this time.

Oh you're definitely right. But after Peter rejects Toomes' offer of class consciousness in favor of that lovely Father Figure, he becomes just as much a villain as Stark.

That's not what Peter does though. He rejects an offer to turn a blind eye to black market WMD distribution. He's a 14 year old and neither understands or cares about the great class implications, or what a lovely person Tony is. But even if he did it wouldn't matter because Toomes is selling loving space nukes to petty criminals.

Actually, now that I think about it Toomes actually didn't offer Peter anything in that scene did he? He admitted it was all just to keep him talking to get his trap up and running. So yeah, my bad on that point. Toomes probably didn't think to try and turn Peter, or reckoned he was too far gone.

Oh right, yeah. I thought you meant the car scene where he was told he could live if he didn't interfere (which was a step up from "I will definitely kill Spiderman").

Also the design of the Vulture's suit is just great. The fur-lined jacket and the leather look is very cool. Combined with that menacing helmet and the overlarge wings with their turbines, it was a drat cool look. The contrast between Toomes' bulky wings and the sleek suit used by the Falcon is interesting as well.

I absolutely loved the bird noises that came out of the suit. It was surprisingly subtle. Like he jammed in a speaker that generated noises based on the suit's movement, but not so loud that it's obnoxious.

In a world of reboots what does it even mean to be 'the same character'. The three on-screen Peter Parkers we've seen are no more 'the same character' than Mary Jane and Michelle. What qualifies as being the same? Having the same name, playing the same role in the story or being the literal exact same person played by a different actor?
