Absolutely this. Browns I bottom out a lot more. If you look at the force curves for the two, the browns require about 55cN to actuate while the clears are at 65cN, so not massively more. There's a lot more difference after actuation, the browns only increase to 60cN through rest of the travel while the clears ramp up steeply to 100cN. For me that means I can type on them with just enough force to actuate but rarely bottom out. The extra resistance sort of cushions it. But I can't quite that get that right with browns and they bottom out a lot. It probably depends a lot in individual technique though.

I want a mechanical keyboard with switches that are specifically good for typing speed, and I want it to have macro buttons that are easily reached without having to move my whole drat hand away from the letter buttons. What is good out there? Bonus points for it being available on Amazon as I have some gift card money.

For reference, I have been using this thing for a decently long time, with black Cherry switches and black o-ring sound dampeners.

I am ready for a TKL or full size, I guess? I see lots of typing in my future right now.

Let's get a little crazy. Let's have some fun.
Finally got my Godspeed sets.

Kind of went crazy getting both the white and blue main sets so I could do this colour way. Going back to a full profile after the Danger Zone (which was all R3s I think) so it'll take me a few days to adjust but it looks pretty schmick.

I guess the Canvas set has been delayed again back to October, although the latest samples look pretty good so it'll probably turn out well. I think I'll have to get a second keyboard for that when that eventually comes out, I don't know the hell why. Stupid hobby.

https://mitormk.com/canvas-xda/

It had me at lower-case legends (an idea which I considered doing myself though WASD's slightly bodgy printing service) on dye-subbed PBT.
Again, production delays kept pushing out this one, although it's a completely new setup so most of that time has been about getting the samples right. Anyway it's looking like it's supposed to now and production has been greenlit. Should release in October :gonk:.

https://mitormk.com/2017/07/08/mitos-updates-5/

Because of the delay MD have requested people opt back in (much like what happened with Godspeed), which is a no-brainer despite how long it's taken.

two new maxkey sets are filtering out of china:

maxkey ninja (black on black)

maxkey dolch

although i'm glad to see this show up (portland had flat greys versus these proper more brown tinted greys, in line with proper dolch), i have to point out that we're coming up on signature plastics having an arguably similar value for $25 more with it's less gaudy arrow keys and a bonus red esc key. signature plastics set is however offered in a dsa profile, so if you're after an sa set maxkey obviously pulls ahead. sp dsa dolch

maxkey is in the habit of over provisioning their kits so you have some critical keys in a couple different sizes and rows.

on mine i have insert/home/pgup in row 1 & delete/end/pgdown in row 2 installed, and i still have these spares:
- row 1 delete, end & pgdown
- row 3 pgup
- row 4 pgdown

Is there a basic, no-frills, tenkeyless mechanical keyboard that wouldn't look out of place in an office? I already have a CODE at home and I like it but I don't want to spend that much money on another one. Ideally something that won't sound annoying to my coworkers (but if it has to be loud they'd probably "get" it because they're also nerds)

A Ducky One is 90 bucks. Is that cheap enough?

The keycaps are a bit eh but they'd work until you decided you absolutely need some doubleshot PBT (a decent set is 30-40 bucks) keycaps.

kbp has a fair amount of switch/form/caps combos:
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=182

you should be getting cherry switches & tai-hao caps in most cases, so for ~$100 it's a nice price/quality midrange

otherwise, the usual big box office supply shops should stock thermaltake/rosewill/logitech/corsair so you can keep an eye out for sales if you're not in a hurry

Double-shot is one method of adding the legends to the keycaps; it essentially means the legends are molded right into the keycaps as part of the molding process. Other options are dye-sublimated, in which ink is injected into the plastic, and pad-printed (what that Ducky has), in which the legends are essentially stamped onto the top of the key. Pad-printed is the least durable; dye-sub and double-shot are pretty much permanent.

for side prints it's not all that important, since you're not poking the legends constantly, but even so it adds a bit of extra material to the key so it's even heavier/stiffer, which is nice

Thanks both of you! I actually have a set of pbt doubleshot caps lying around, so what the board comes with doesn't matter. Unfortunately $90 is more than I want to spend, I was hoping for some $50-$60 options. I did find a $80 cooler master keyboard on Newegg at least :v:

well, one last stab at this if you already have caps: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/catalogsearch/result/?q=barebones

wasd and code boards are functionally and visually the same (minus backlighting on the wasd), so if you really enjoy your code, you could spend a bit more than expected and have something you know does the job and looks good.

otherwise, around the $60 point you could look into magiforce's stuff; the 68 is a favorite for budget builds and the 108 is new but looking promising.

do carefully read the listings if purchasing these, as they come in all switch makes & weights, you really want to stick to gateron or cherry. the cheaper 68s are going to have the most bargain bin, no qc garbage switches in them (ie older kailh or outemu).

for my money, i'd go with a naked wasd and not look back.

I have a KBT Race somewhere, and the problem I had with that (and I assume I would have it with the pok3r if it's the same) is that it has a really steep incline. I could definitely stand to get a bigger keyboard these days, I just want it to be as low-incline as possible. Unfortunately, incline is not something any keyboard website allows you to search by.

So 2 questions I guess.

1- Is there a decent non-60% with a low incline? I'm using a Ducky Shine Mini right now, I doubt it'll be easy to beat, but I would like something similar.

2- What have you guys found to be the contributing factors in a keyboard when it comes to sheer typing speed?
