buglord posted:Thats what I was thinking. But also it seems like getting decent o-rings is going to be half the cost of my keyboard (Aukey 87 key). I used to have a DAS brown back in 2011 which was cool but not really satisfying to type on because there was no click unless I bottom out. Trying to find a nice (and most importantly cheap) in-between of volume. This is why a lot of people like clears, maybe you should try them?

After a few months of consensus posting from the thread I've decided to move Kalih up to Good Cherry Clones from Nope. Any other changes people would like to see to the OP?

There's also specialty "quiet" switches which work pretty well. Topre boards are also much less...expressive. The sound is more of a thock, like rain on a roof, than the sharp click of most switches. It's quite relaxing.

Will vouch for Coolmaster keyboards, my first mechanical was one of their weird TKLs with a hybrid numpad/cluster with Blues. Got me hooked quite well. Speaking of, I have a Mistel Barroco coming in a few days. Will post thoughts when I get it.

Yeah, when I wrote the OP there weren't too many high end ABS keycaps yet. I'm going to keep things as is because ABS is still generally the material of lesser keycaps, and anyone deep enough in the hobby to know the difference doesn't need the OP anymore.

Is there any place that makes custom wooden wrist rests? I love my Barocco, and all it needs are some wrist rests for me to have a really killer setup.

I'm thinking it's about time for another thread update. This time I'd like to focus on the recced boards. I'm looking for a good budget keyboard to put up for people, I'm going to add the Vortex Race 3 as well. (I think it's one of the best keyboards rn) So I'd love to hear people's opinions on budget boards these days.

Alright, I'm finally updating some of the keyboard recs on here like I keep meaning too. There's a bunch of ones I gotta replace, and what I wanna ask for right now is for y'all to suggest the cheapest decent quality full-size keyboard you know about. WASD is very nice and all but it's a bit like telling someone whose never driven before to buy a BMW. I'd also like to hear what people think of various switch brands because I wanna update the switch quality guidelines.

Saddamnit posted:Thanks guys. My biggest concern is making sure the keys are quiet, so I definitely want to test them out before committing the cash. Please note that keyboard construction will also play a large role in how loud switches are. A more open design with a lighter backplate will be louder, in my experience. It's worth listening to sound tests for keyboards as well as a result.
