Why the hell are Stephens and Weiss the ones given some much protection? Are they that big a source of revenue or something?

Stephens at least is a Never Trump Republican™ and for some reason it is vitally important that we pretend this is an actual movement instead of a few dumbfuck pundits cynically adopting a position

All the tech giants are cracking down on "hacking". Youtube started banning videos about infosec that walk through how to use security tools or how exploits work last year. I don't think anyone who gives a poo poo about tech still uses Facebook, but apparently they have been doing the same.

Of course these rules only apply to filthy commoners, if the FBI or National Gendarmerie hacks some crime ring it is still A-OK to publish all that info. Also it's becoming more and more difficult to break into a career in information security unless you are ex-NSA, ex-military, ex-FBI, etc. So basically gently caress Twitter and all the tech companies and gently caress Jack for throwing his employees under the bus over this whole thing.

sounds like everyone is all lined up to suppress the next panama papers or snowden leak. If they applied this sort of rule fairly and universally, wouldn't discussing watergate be off limits?

e: maybe you're thinking of the Pentagon Papers, which were obtained via "leaks" rather than "hacking"? Same with the Panama Papers and Snowden's stuff.

yeah, probably a better analogy, though I was thinking of deep throat leaking to bob woodward. Hacking is simply accessing a computer system without permission, and all documents are stored electronically now, so every leak is a hack.

So it kind of looks like Plott is a movement CHUD, and either directly sought out these other movement CHUDs to put into her article, or other movement CHUD contacts of hers fed them to her.

Either way it seems pretty doubtful she didn't know their political jobs.

The question is does the NYT continue to employ her and let her put out articles like this despite getting some egg on their face?

maybe it's simply that she has no other friends and the only people left in her personal and professional life that she hasn't driven away are committed Trump lifestylers
