Palpek posted:Legend of Grimrock, it was still in development at the time. Oh, makes sense! As I recall, Legend of Grimrock picked up a lot of traction because it was coming out in a time when there was a drought of good oldschool dungeoncrawlers on steam.

I wasn't, but then a week ago a wild whim grabbed me as I was looking at my bookcase and I started reading it and this time it actually clicked! The writing is so incredibly good, it's great! Also, happy report, the ham/pineapple pizza was delicious and now I'm ready to play some video games~

The stupidest game I ever bought for full price on steam was A Valley Without Wind, Arcen's, uh, attempt at a platformer. In some ways I don't regret it - the visual design was interesting and some of the sections were fun to play - but the rest of me is consumed with how flawed it was, and how I spent fifteen whole freaking dollars on it when it's at most a five dollar game.

Red Bones posted:A Valley Without Wind is staggeringly bad, it's probably the worst game I've ever paid money for and I think I bought it in a sale. They gave out the sequel for free (it's also bad, don't play it). I have 13 hours in the first one and 2 in the second and this is why you shouldn't buy games at full price, you'll try to justify the cost and no. No.

CharlieFoxtrot posted:I cannot get into any of the Arcen games. They always sound really interesting on paper in terms of their ideas but the low-rent art and bad-feeling fiddly compulsive gameplay loops always turned me off in the end. Even their most polished release, AI War, left me thinking, why am I doing this Some of their games are genuinely good - Starward Rogue comes to mind - but in general, oof. I love them for their weird ideas, I hate them because damnit, they need an editor, polish, and cleaner UI.

Kai Tave posted:For the record I haven't actually played Night in the Woods so I could be completely off-base with that description. From what I've heard about it, it sounds accurate? I will report back as I play it! e: Holy flipflaps it opens with the protagonist's grandpa dying. And. Uh. My IRL grandpa is in the final stages of cancer, so... it's a different situation. My grandpa and I have a strained relationship, he's in another state so I hear about him through phonecalls with my aunt and grandma, and he's not... the kindest person, but. The game went right for the heart, and with some good writing, to boot. drat. e2: The town in this game is almost exactly like the place where I grew up, except that it somehow has a bus station, and its park is empty at night.
