Problem description: I do have 5 years in frontline support for a laptop company under my belt, to start. In the last week or so I keep seeing some of my new chrome tabs originally load the desired page before switching to things with domains like DO NOT VISIT NO NO BAD (wot) saying "critical chrome update" or the like. Googling these domains produces no relevant results. This is happening when doing things like clicking a link to a verified good news site from a D&D thread. I've also seen where pages including SA forums pages continue to show the "loading" circle when all page elements appear to be loaded, for a considerable time. I found nothing out of the ordinary in a hijackthis scan and the hosts file is clean.

Attempted fixes: Malwarebytes scan, windows defender security center scan, spybot scan, hijackthis

Recent changes: None beyond installing Facebook Gameroom and a couple other verified good apps from official pages.

Operating system: win10 home x64

System specs: Only relevant ones I can imagine are Asus router, RCA modem, no other fancy network equipment. Basic home network

Location: USA

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes, nothing found that was useful

E: Active browser extensions are Chrome defaults and Skype.

E2: redacted domains for safety.

Run these three and see if they find anything:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Are you using Web of Trust? If so, you probably want to stop that as they've gotten a bad reputation for selling data and not being upfront about it IIRC.

Use this if you aren't already:

I think the malwarebytes adware one got it after running all 3 and getting uBlock installed.

I've gotten rusty lately Thanks a ton!
