Most of you know what Albion Online is.. Well over 200 of us have played throughout the many alpha and betas. Needless to say all you guys wasted either 30, 50, or 100 on this game which is about to finally be released. I expect you to play for at least the first two weeks. The good news is many things have changed since you last played. Most of the grinding is either substantially less than it was, I would say by about 65% and gear has had even more of the curve at the top end edited down so T6.x is far closer to T8. For those who don't know wtf AO is, see the image below.

Yep, so it's a full loot sandbox PvP game. Be prepared to lose your $100 mount in the first 10 minutes because you're bad. You don't need to do territory warfare if you don't want. With the changes to Caerleon most of what was the case can now be thrown out the window.

Albion Online releases on July 17th 2017. If you get the $100 pack you get to play on Monday, $50 or whatever the middle is, Tuesday, and the $30 is Wednesday morning. The game releases 8am EST, whatever that is in your moon timezone, adjust as needed. So plan on getting into mumble 1 hour before starting at that time. As I said most things have changed in the last two betas on the road to release. I'll go over a few important things.

First watch this video and get an idea what the games about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94kj8Z7rw4o. This game has open world PvP, ZvZ, and GvG, which is 5v5 territory battles. Many goons were vocal about how GvG sucked, but never actually participated in them. I believe this mostly came from "use numbers" aka Eve. But this game isn't Eve, and we can't use that mentality. At least not in the alphas and first beta where we tried. Now days though the game is completely different and that mentality of make the enemy choke on ships could possibly work out in a ZvZ format. So now things that changed which make ZvZ more useful; you can enter all territories except cities even if you don't own them. This means not only can you farm resources in them, you can kill other players dumb enough to assume they're safe there. Making ZvZ more of a useful tool. You can also kill GvGers and steal all 4 of their sets of gear when they are on the way to GvG battles. Tier 8 resources got moved to territories so now they spawn at the start of the 4 hour GvG window. Which at first makes you assume that it will suck, but then you have to realize that you can ZvZ whom ever is in the territory and just take the resources. Better yet, just zerg the territory about 30 minutes after prime and take all the loot.

Caerleon is the center city in the middle of the Royal Islands. As you can see by the image above, all the links to the Outlands (Black) come from the portal. This means that caerleon is really the only city to build your guild island in. So it's universally the place to base out of either terrifying pubbies in the royals or in black. The plus side is that the portal locks everyone so they can only go to different areas every 2 hours. You can use the portal you took any number of times. This prevents the high end players from making GBS threads all over the lower end areas. It also takes the guess work completely out of basing and which auction house will be the most popular. There are also 8 entrances to the city across 8 zones. So entering the city is still possible without being camped at least in beta. When 9 million people come back for launch this might be a different story.

New to the game is the black market, pictured above. This is a npc which will buy all items at a specific price. The price increases as there is more of a need for the item. So how are items needed? When players kill mobs if a mob would have a chance to drop a item, the system puts a 1 here and the next time this is triggered it either buys an item off the auction house or it takes an item sold to the black market. When a player kills the next mob that item is dropped as loot. This way the entire game is now player driven by crafting. No items in the game drop which were not created by players, there are some exceptions, but armor, weapons, mounts, etc all apply here. You can see the video here which also shows much more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ9__gbsIDk. See the picture below of a player looting items from a mob crafted by a player.

Soft caps, and new Hellgate designs. Yes softcaps are now everywhere so you don't have to worry about T8.3 players in yellow. Caps are in both GvG and Hellgates, in yellow, red, and black in hellgates. No caps in the overworld because it really doesn't matter there no one comes with really good gear. Yellow is 700, Red is 800, people are saying black has a cap even though it's not listed. Which I believe puts the gear at 5.2 and 6.2 which is basically the gear obtainable in those zones.

Boss mobs are now in the game. This is quite different from before, and if memory serves these drop 2500 mats when downed. There is a boss mob for each type of resource, and there are also npc flavored boss mobs as well in dungeons.

There is now a tutorial in the game so everyone gets a donkey at the start if they complete the tutorial which is pretty short and gets you a little more in depth with the game than the previous. Though it still needs more work. I'll also release a getting started video which runs you over the starting area.

Skill Tree was updated with the UI and continues to get improvements. You can now track skills whenever you want and remove them when your not interested in skilling various ones up. UI is much more intuitive and smooth, easier to understand.

Much of the game has changed away from what you might have known. I'm just going to post some pictures of changes or things that new people will need to know.

For all the newbies out there. This is the auction house to sell wares. Unlike other games you cannot sell items in this game for silver. You can kill mobs for silver, or break down items at the repair station for 1/3 the resources and a small small bit of silver. If you want to sell things, you'll need to do so at an auction house. Be warned that auction houses are not linked. You will only be selling your item on the current AH, and you will need to return to pick up the item should it not sell. Items sold show up in your mail as silver.

You can travel between cities on the Royal Island. Be warned that it comes at a cost. You can travel nude for free last I checked. If you want to travel with gear it costs based on item value. If you try to take an Ox it will no doubt cost more than the Ox would be worth to travel between auction houses for trade. But on day one if you need to travel to where the guild is meeting up, this is a good option. Just know you likely won't be taking stuff with you unless you want to pay.

Solo & Group Instances are new and are found in each city or town. These range from T3 to T6 and you can queue up both solo and with a 5 man group. You can also random queue if you want better fame and rewards that come along with the 5 man instances. Obviously you want to make a premade since your chances are getting morons are about 95%. Believe it or not most AO players are not elite as they think. Another change from what you might remember is that you can use T3 weapons/armor to skill up fame all the way to wearing T8 in these. Not that it's efficient but if your that type of autistic you can do that. You also no longer drop gear on death in dungeons from PvE mobs. This means you'll never lose that gear if your the risk adverse type. Rewards are sigils which can be used to make special gear which have skills that are sought after in PvP. So there's always a reason to do these. It's a good thing added to the game you can do without risking gear while you wait for your group to go out and PvP.

Day & Night cycles , I know it's dumb, but I really did a lot of complaining that the world wasn't much of a actual world in AO round table forums. The devs did listen and they have been doing many updates over the last few months. Greatly improving all parts of the game including the atmosphere we can see in the picture above.

HUGE New Dungeons layouts, lets face it the old dungeons sucked. As a part of making the world better obviously we needed better places to actually PvE. Now added are multiple types of dungeons, undead, keeper, etc. All of these dungeons include many levels and bosses. This means some can be 3 levels deep, with bosses across all the floors. On top of this PvE mobs don't kill you so you can focus on PvE, and PvP if needed. Dungeons give HUGE fame and silver. I've done something like 300-500k fame in a few hours, in the right spots and with the right group. I've made 100K+ easily in these sittings as well as looted 3-5 gear items.

Blob mechanics, it's the new kind where you can't run 10 and have a 11th hostile player show up on the map. Now you get a general idea of the blob size, and how huge the blob might be. Also you blob in black now which might change. But currently you can at least play in black and avoid huge death balls.

PvP GvG zone lines, You can see in the image above you can now enter all territories except town/home. This means you can kill, loot, farm in other peoples areas. This is what makes ZvZ mean something now. So now when we have 100+ we can poo poo on everyone in the zone. We can swarm their zone and loot their resources.

Better Maps, Many people complained about maps, myself included. Now we go back slowly to the way we had some maps in alpha, and beta1. As you can see as they redo maps, many have huge areas of choke points. Couple this with the new blob mechanic and there are interesting new ways to deal with groups of players. Setup PvP traps on the side of the road, place a camp outside a dungeon entrance. New maps as they are released change the game.

This post will go over how to read the map legend, the biomes, resources of all types, and what they look like. We always get players who are in the middle of the woods and every tree looks just a little different. Reference this post to find the resource you're looking for up to T6. I might add T7 and T8 later.

First on the left you see the type of zone, in this case it's black with the skull. Full on PvP full loot, no rules. Zone types are Blue, no PvP. Yellow zones where you can PvP if flagged. you do not drop loot. Red where you can PvP if flagged, or PvP against flagged players unflagged, full loot in this zone. Black where full loot PvP is always on and you don't get any option. Next in the middle is the time span where you can either attack a territory in the zone. This means you could attack during this time if you were in the adjacent zone if you own territory or are attacking from a war camp. All times are in UTC much like Eve. Next is the resource bonus for .1, .2, and .3, and are general the amount of this type of resource you'll find in the zone. In this zone since it's high end black we will find 23% of resources as special shiny ones. More of this later in the resource section. Next is the type of resources found in this zone. Since this picture was taken in the highlands biomes, you can find wood, stone, and ore in these zones. Next is the Tier of resource. Under the icons you'll see roman numerals. In this example the zone had IV - VI, or T4 - T6 resources in it.

As discussed above all zones have special shiny resources. In the image above we can see a green halo around T4 Ore, and in the other image, a blue halo around T4 Cotton. In this case Green halo always means X.1 resources, Blue X.2, and Purple X.3. So in this case if I was to mine the green T4 ore, I would get 4.1 Ore. If I was to make gear with this ore it would be a T4.1 Plate Chest. The dot level is always one tier higher. So example .1 means whatever teir the ore is +1, blue is +2, and purple +3. So a T4.3 Plate Chest would be equal to a T7 Plate chest. This means you can have gear power equal to T7 in a T4.3 item. It allows those who can't get T8 still be on the relative gear level. Another example is Tier 6.2 cloth would be equal in power and gear score to T8 cloth. This resource setup starts at T4, and goes to T8. You will not find shiny T3 or below resources. This also means that you can have T11 items if you had 8.3.

Next, Where do you find the resources and in which biomes? I'll also bold the resource you'll mostly find here. Well there are 5 different types of biomes in the game which are the following:

Woods: Wood, Stone, Leather
Desserts: Leather, Cotton, Ore
Highlands: Wood, Stone, Ore
Swamps: Wood, Leather, Cotton
Mountains: Stone, Cotton, Ore

RESOURCES

Basic T3 mobs, all humanoid mobs drop silver in the game. So if you're in need of money go look for dungeons, raids, or special event areas which have humanoid type mobs.

Rare bosses have the orange circle around them. They can drop any item really with the new system. Mostly you'll get runes or other such items used to meld very rare items, and a much higher silver drop.

Relic Lockers drop relics used to make extremely rare items. These are either on an 24 hour timer in the middle of a PvP area, or on a 3 day timer. You generally get two relics and a large amount of silver (100k+).

Smite your way to victory friend. Healing is not really as dull now. You need to have good situational awareness in pvp now. Not sure if that makes it dull?

you get some extra currency and a horse+ox to start w/ but most of the value is in being able to start a day earlier

if you intend to possibly invest a lot of time into this game you can grind out a lot of silver (which you can then convert to gold) on that first day which will set you up financially for the months ahead

best OP of any MMO 2017.

I will say that while this game probably sucked massive pen15s in the alphas and early betas that having played only from 2 weeks ago this game seems really fun and in a much better state in terms of horrid grind/broken mechanics.

This also seems like the kind of game that goons can do really well in... 5v5 poopsock mechanics aside, massive gank squads on trammies who rage/cry is pretty much the reason 90% of us play any MMO. The other 10% who play to get jew rich can do that in this game as well -- with every item in the game being player crafted, the gatherers, crafters , and pacifists also play a huge role. You may be swinging a sickle gathering herbs but youre just as important as the guy swinging the sword in producing pubbie tears. This game rewards the guilds that work together so as long as we can keep the guild bank from getting looted for the first month, Albion has potential to be a really fun MMO launch.

That's a really good op.

I kind of ducked out of this game waaaaay back in whichever beta was like, a year ago. One of the things a lot of goons noticed was that the game was much more fun in the early stages, before the grind got really bad, the gear got so good newbies were unable to overcome vets even by force (EVE-style) and still had just the overall feeling you were making progress. PVP was also a zerg/blob-fest but in a bad way not a fun way, and apparently the GVG mechanics actively worked against newbies having any fun, or something. I know they say they've changed some of that but laffo at MMO devs actually getting this stuff right on release.

Hope if anyone plays they can put some words down about how the game 'feels' now because I do remember the game did have a nice charm to it and a cool skill system.

So there's guards now on them that aren't trivial to kill for most players, you have to work around them for ganking solo. Large groups can show presence and mow them over.
